I never watch Doctor Who, I always thought of it as dumb sci-fi, so I was surprised when I saw these three episodes on TV. If you've never watched Doctor Who before, buy this DVD first before any others (although there's some in-jokes there that you don't get if you're not a fan).

There are three episodes on here and the first up is Human Nature, where a school teacher dreams of havign adventures in space. Worst episode on the disc, but still very scary. Baines, the villain is a brilliant actor and those scarecrows are... scary.

THe second is the second part of Human Nature; Family of Blood. More Baines, more scarecrows, and some truly sad moments. Paul Cornell is a brilliant writer and all the actors are incredible. ... Read More:

Robert Powell , Tim McInnery , Derek Jacobi , Janet McTeer and Rachel Tier all do a very good job in a well filmed attempt to update the Miss Marple franchise . Geraldine McKewan is very brave to try and follow on after Joan Hickson and both of them have the merit of looking and sounding like the Miss Marple of the novels . It is a stunning TV Movie but the excecutions at the end are a bit distressing . But it does point out that thoughts of adultery & murder can give birth to death if not rooted out by a desire to stand before Our Lord in good conscience . In a way it is pleasing that Agatha Christie's works are being adapted for a modern early 21st Century audience but the harrowing conclusion of this episode could have been made less graphic by just ... I love this series and wish they had done more and think she is a fab actress. Makes me laugh all the way through and makes you sit up and look at your own life, but in a funny Bridget Jones type of light hearted way.

DVD : Agatha Christie's Marple: Series 1 [2005] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Although this entire new series is hardly worth a gigabyte of virtual ink to review, I feel compelled to comment here as a devoted fan of Agatha Christie's formidable female sleuth. Most obviously, actress Joan Hickson playing Marple in the previous BBC series was the perfect embodiment of the character--combining a quiet strength; fierce intelligence; a dash of dry humor; and when required, an unemotional sense of justice unmoved by the sentimental. Although not all gems, each of the Hickson Marple films were both respectful of their source material and entertainingly executed. Point for point, it is precisely each of these merits that are grossly lacking in the new Marple series. It appears that as a whole, the current outings have been slickly, although not ... Unlike the previous reviewer, I thoroughly enjoyed these DVDs and could watch them again and again.
The quality of the costumes, sets and locations, along with the great attention to detail, really make the stories come alive. Although some of the episodes differ greatly from the Agatha Christie novels, they are still entertaining and extremely watchable! Geraldine MacEwan makes an excellent Miss Marple!
