I can't add too much to what has been said in the other reviews.

Candyman is one of the finest atmospheric horror films ever made. The film doesn't rely on any teenage bimbos or hunks as most horror films do today and the whole film is shot to perfection around Chicago. You feel like this could actually be happening. This is one of those rare films that you actually do feel a sense of dread the whole time.

The only note to add is the DVD I got did not match the picture shown.

I'm not complaining as who can at £2.98.

BUY IT NOW.

...but nothing special. Hellraiser was the film that gave the character Pinhead his cult status but he and the rest of the cenobites are only on screen for about the last 20 minutes of the film. The first hour is the story of a man who's name is Frank, buys a mysterious cube from a strange man and then later dies, but the blood of his brother brings him partually back to life but he needs more blood to be completly human again, so he gets his sister-in-law Julia to lure men back to her house so Frank can kill them and become human again. This part of the film is repetitive and tedious but when the cenobites finally do turn up and go after Frank's niece Kirsty,(who found the cube after Frank), the film improves greatly. The cenobites make-up looks fantastic and ... Read More:

This is an underrated horror classic - watch it! Unfairly maligned by the critics upon its release. However anyone who's into the Night Watch and Underworld movies should check this out and see how it should be done. Clive Barker is a god! This really needs to be released in region 2 asap.

Losing the strait ahead structure of his first two films Barker draws out his short story "The Last Illusion" (Books of Blood VI aka Cabal) and makes an intriguing prelude to "The Great and Secret Show" Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the D'Amour's second story will ever see the screen.

The story centers around an occult led by nix, a petty demon-like man with some real powers, but little ambition. After he kidnaps a 12 yr old girl, his best learner, Swan, and a small band of followers who see the error of there ways mount a rescue, they seal Nix in an iron mask and bury him in the dessert.

Years latter...

Swan is married to the girl, Dorthea, now a woman, but Nix's followers are ready for the resurrection. Fearing for her safety Swan ... Read More:

The first installment of the trilogy has to be one of the greatest films. An amazing an unique story into Clive Barkers morbid imagination. Fantastic make-up and special effects on the Cenobites and Frank.

The second and the third (Hellbound and Hell On Earth) are certainly competative to the first. Unfortunately they both lack the horrors that the Cenobites bought to the first film. The third film is completely devoted to Pinhead and like the second lacks in scare value. Gore on the other hand is top notch on all 3.

All in all if you like your horror this is an amazing buy! Imaginative storylines, half decent cast and stunning SFX. One for the collection

There are a lot of contenders for the best horror film ever made, but this film stands out from them all due to the sheer imaginative power and intelligence behind it. The concept of the Cenobites and the vast mythology that is only just hinted at in this film makes the imagination salivate for a long time after you have watched it. This is a brutal film, but by the standards of the mindless torture porn provided today (for an equally mindless audience that wants its horror as basic and simple as possible) it is no longer as brutal as it seemed back in 1987. Visually striking, imaginative and atmospheric, it is the Citizen Kane of the horror genre. Like Kane no other film in its genre (other than The Shining) is as inventive in its visuals or as thick with ideas. Added to the fact that it is Barker's ... Read More:
