I'm a sci-fi fan so my comments are biased but I thoroughly enjoyed this mini-series. I would recommend it to viewers who like films of a weird/otherworldy/supernatural quality. Definitely not down-to-earth stuff but then the characters are quite real and believable.

Like a really long episode of the twilight zone, it gets better after a few episodes, but I never believed in the central romance and sometimes it feels a bit cheap in places, and extremely restrained, like when characters first see the room and simply fail to be amazed by it. Overall though it did leave me wanting more episodes, there's a lot of stuff that could have happened with those objects, if the government ever discovered them, for example, or if the characters ever went abroad using the key (wouldn't you?). Plus there could have been a more compelling ending, I thought, but it's good in a way that they don't reveal too much - you can imagine your own theories about "the event". But what would God be doing in a motel?

DVD : Stephen King's Storm Of The Century [1999]
Stephen King is the man when it comes to long stories about small town evil goings on. This title having not come from one of his existing books still lives up to the rest of his mini series gems still nothing has quite topped The Stand. This one is stark through and through lending the well hearted good vs evil nature that is so frequent with King stories. However, there are some supporting actors here that are just pants and bring down the rest the main guy for one. The main bad dude is spot on and very sinister. This miniseries took nearly ten years to grace the sales shelves since its airing on TV and it was worth the wait now if they go back and put in some special features this would be the best DVD ever!

Jack Caine is a maverick cop and while on an undercover operation sting on drug dealer Victor Manning. He gets distracted by a hold-up and because of that his partner is killed. But Manning is now the least of his worries, as a new figure has entered the drug scene. A tall, blond haired man with blinding white eyes, who doesn't seem of this world. Jack gets paired up with a rule-abiding FBI agent Larry Smith, and they discover their mysterious man is an intergalactic drug dealer. He injects his victims with heroine to extract an important dose of endorphins from their brains.

What an uncanny and ultra-slick item. Lousy this is not, as there's quite a lot of fun to be had in this rapid-moving and largely witty action hybrid. I believe it to be Dolph ... Read More:

Not For Anyone who has seen and love The Haunting (1960's black and white version)

This film is okay as long as you don't keep comparing it to The Haunting which was based on Shirley Jackson's book (which is actually mentioned in King's Rose Red)

As far as I can see he's basically taken Jackson's classic storyline and given it a few twists and called it his own, which is great loads of people pay homage to their favourite flicks but I think in view of the Haunting's fear factor (scares the pants off me even now) it was a homage that someone like Stephen King should have been able to do better.

Having read the Diary of Ellen Rimbauer I can understand why Rose Red was the perfect place the host a 'Haunting' style ghost hunt and it is ... Read More:

When is this action classic going to get a Region 2 release??!!!
Action packed, violent, great stunts & a REALLY good biker vibe!
One of the best of it's type (and let's be honest it's a small genre!) so let's have it please!
It's not at the level of Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior but for bikes & car chases & violent gunplay while on wheels then Stallone's 1986 Cobra would be a very fair comparison!
There are some cool actors here; Lance Henriksen (this guy can always make an average movie very watchable) & William Forsythe as the principal biker bad guys. Henriksen's portrayal of the definitive one percenter, Chains is one of his most memorable!
It's worth picking this up on Region 1 at worst if you can PLAY it - I'll have to make do ... Read More:

A very strange story in this film. A story that does not look like Stephen King's traditional stories. Many things are different from what he has ever produced. Strangely enough it comes after the film "Rose Red" that is posterior in story time. This story is thus a prequel to the previously shot one. The element that is typically Kingian is the haunted house with some connection to Indians behind. But that is all. The story itself is some kind of distorted and warped "Gone with the Wind" in a setting that looks like and sounds like a Victorian house from England's 19th century, the Bronte Sisters maybe. The main character, Ellen Rimbauer herself is more like one of these feminine characters from this English literary period. Little to do with Stephen King's social approach and even ... Read More:

This is not so much a review as a public health warning - this boring, unbelievable, poorly-written and -acted(??) rubbish should be avoided at, if you'll pardon the expression, gunpoint. On one of my favourite gripes; cars get hit by trams every day, but they don't explode in fireballs. I'd no idea that petrol was so explosive. I think I'll give up driving.

I'm awarding this film one star because I can't award it any less. In reality, this film truly merits the Teemacs Five Black Hole Award. I'll not be seeing "3".

DVD : Stephen King's Storm of the Century [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This movie takes place in a small town isolated on an Island off Maine. And as the title suggest, it is hit by the worse storm ever. Snow so thick it is hard to see through and wind so strong that the waves of the ocean start to claim buildings. This alone would make for an exciting adventure movie. But of course King gives us more. A truly supernatural villain comes to town and knows everyone secrets. He starts to kill them off and keeps asking to be given `what he wants." As we watch the movie we are trying to figure out what he wants...and also wondering why the villagers do not give it to them.

The movie is suspenseful. And the acting is great. Everyone in this movie acts well, including the children. Of course the best is Colm Feore as the villain Andre Linge, and Tim Daly as the ... Read More:
