First off as a DVD this is superb, the quality of picture and sound for something that was originally recorded in 1967 will blow you away, as will Jimi's unforgettable performance.
I've been a Hendrix music fan for a good while but I'd never actually seen him play a full set like you do on this DVD, I'd only ever seen brief clippings from documentaries etc before. Why?! Jimi at the Monterey is one of the best musical PERFORMANCES I've ever seen and anybody with even a passing interest in rock music (not just its history) should be forced to watch it, man if he played like that at every gig he played it's no wonder his rise to fame was so meteoric. Even now in 2008 I had to physically attach my lower jaw back to my face after watching ... Read More:

DVD : The Complete Monterey Pop Festival [2002]
It finally arrived. I've only watched disc 1 so far - but it was worth the wait. Opening with " If you're going to San Francisco" the memories of that era started to come back. I now have the 3 major festivals of the 60s/70s so I can escape the stresses of today for hours at any time.

My biggest gripe is that, having paid the price of the DVDs + Vat I then get stung by HM Customs for a further £14.

Given that I would recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys festivals and music. Janis Joplin and Otis Redding on the same lineup - awesome

Even if you're familiar with the original movie, this is well worth getting if you're a fan. The extra disk contains plenty of outtakes and some fine live bits that complement and illuminate the main feature. There's also a booklet containing a painstaking transcript of all the dialogue - not an easy task considering this is a documentary and not a scripted movie. Plus to round it all off there's a little flipbook of the "Subterranean Homesick Blues" video!

This is a wonderful DVD with well known artists like Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch, good performances as always, but also some less known and well hidden gems: artists like The Cox Family and the Peasall Sisters. I hadn't seen the movie, a friend recommended to listen to the music. Thanks to him, I now own another beautiful piece of very good music.

Worth buying! You won't regret it!

Ciao, Klaas

Wow - this is hotter than the surface of Mars.
This final concert by DAVID DOWIE as Ziggy Stardust is the best live show in the history of rock`n`roll.
Magic moments are the performences of ZIGGY - My Death - Rock`n`Roll Suicide...songs that will never date.
Without ZIGGY there would of been no JOEY TEEN or The Buzz Kids - and for that fact alone I will always worship at the feet of Ziggy Stardust and David Bowie.

I've waited for years to see this performance in it's entirety and finally I managed to find it on DVD. Quite frankly, I'm beyond disappointed Feeling a little "short changed" is a complete understatement. Out of the 20 songs on the audio CD, you a get a measley 12, some of which are edited badly to make them shorter than they should be.

The documentary has some interesting bits with the band, interspersed between footage of some fans no-body really gives a stuff about, and songs that are already on the other disc.

I'm sure what we all really wanted was the full length performance, not this badly put together collection of bits and pieces.

My advice: Buy the audio CD, crank up the volume and just imagine you were there

DVD : The Horse's Mouth [1958]
I recently purchased this film from Amazon as well as "The Alec Guinness Collection" which includes Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) plus four others: The Man in the White Suit (1951), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), The Captain's Paradise (1953), and The Ladykillers (1955). Frankly, I was amazed how well each of the six films has held up since I first saw it.

This film is based on a novel by Joyce Carey, The Horse's Mouth. Guinness wrote the screenplay which was nominated for an Academy Award. The director was Ronald Neame who also produced it. Special credit should also be given to the cinematographer, Arthur Ibbetson, who brilliantly captures the beauty of London while sustaining the viewer's focus on both the splendor and squalor of Gulley Jimson's passions.
