This is a fantastic film. It shows both sides of the story as much as any movie can. It shows the greedy Americans and the sick cruel Saddam regime. What strikes me the most is how, I guess you could call them 'politically correct' reviewers, have come here talking about this being an "anti-war film" or a statement against America. In my opinion these individuals only pay attention to what suits their point of view. This film shows both sides; the helplessness of the Iraqi civilians being slaughtered by Saddam's army, and the American government's greed for oil which means they readily abandon the Iraqi people after promising to back them in their rise against Saddam. This is not anti-war, this is pro-war; but pro-the right kind ... Read More:

This is in response to all the negative reviews i just read. Amazing idea, fantastic cast and it IS really funny. How anyone can think this is boring and meaningless is beyond me. Maybe this film is more about you than you realize! 'How am I not myself, How am I not myself, How am I not myself??.........'etc

Never written a review on here before but wanted to for this because it made such a great present for my boyfriend. Really good, varied collection of films and the cover's made of metal which is really cool. Just thought i'd mention it in case anyone else out there's stuck for a present for their bloke!

Compared to the movies of Todd Solondz (Which this movie is blatently trying to emulate) Spanking The Monkey has nothing to offer. It is not cleverly written in any shape or form. No wit, no irony, no nothing. What a let down! I was hoping for a subversive dark black comedy but this is just boring tripe. Never has the subject of incest been so BORING! The characters have nothing to offer, they are void and boring and the person who plays the mother is such a bad actress. There is no reason as to why they did what they did ... they got a little drunk and he hadn't gotten any in a while. Damn. If this was real life, we'd all be commiting incest. I saw Three Kings, and I thought it was a brilliant film. Then I discovered that Mr Russell also does comedy, so I rented this one. I must say I was in awe of the director, that he could be so versatile. But when I saw this film, I was very disappointed. It didn't make me laugh once. It was overdone, silly, unfunny. So he's not such a genius after all.

This is a film you need to just watch and know nothing about to truly enjoy. I will try not to ruin it for you if you have not seen it. I originally just put it on for background noise, and then I found myself watching it. I really enjoyed this movie. The cast is of this movie is amazing. Tomlin, Hoffman and Law deliver excellent performances. But the true star of this film has to be Jason Schwartzman. His acting is above par. And I must admit I enjoyed watching Mark Wahlberg having to act. A well done to all the actors in this project. This is defiantly not a mainstream film, so be prepared. The movie has Schwartzman's character who is afflicted with human emotions higher an unusual team of detectives to find clues to what is happening ... Read More:
