"Tenko" the moving BBC drama series about civilan women captured by the Japanese in 1942,following the fall of Singapore,returns for a second series on this DVD set. As the women march to a new camp,they find out three of their friends Nellie(Jeananne Crawley)Slyvia(Renee Asherburn) and Blanche(Louise Jameson)have been sent to another camp. The writers cleverly writing into the plot,when actors weren't returning or pregnant,Blanche thankfully does return in episode 6 with the sad news Slyvia has died,she tells Beatrice(Stephanie Cole)that Nellie is still alive,although Beatrice thinks its a kind lie,in series 3,its revealed Nellie dies just before the end of the war. This series is everything a sunday night family drama should be -funny, big hearted and cosy, with superb acting and spectacular scenery. Being on DVD means that sunday night feeling is available any time of the week. OK, so it's not the most realistic series ever, but that's not the point: the point is to escape into a world where conflicts may arise but we know they will be sorted out by the end, and we are left with a warm fuzzy feeling. There are also more than a few belly laughs along the way, and in a world full of depressing drama series and 'dark' comedy, this is a much needed ray of sunshine.

This is one of those films [incase it is cross posted this is a review of "Miss Marple: Nemesis (1986) ASIN: 6303404855] that need to be watched twice. So much is packed from the beginning that you may forget it by the time you need the information. Then you can say "Oh, that was why." A previous stated "This play isn't about a murder, it's about Miss Marple." And many of the characters repeat this through out the film. And this is maybe not standard but one of the plays where everyone and then some shows up in one place. It is not quite like "And Then There Were None (1945)" ASIN: 6304679661, but in a way more complicated. This has to be a must for anybody who likes either Taggart or Silent Witness. And, if your memory of this short-lived series is good, then fork out the money for this boxset beacause it is every bit as good now. What makes each of the first eight films work so well is the combination of the characters complicated lives with some chilling (at times very scarey) plotlines. Yes, it does sometimes push the realms of plausibility, but credibility never steps in the way of enjoyment. The last film does not have John Hannah in and, although it is in the same style, he leaves a rather large hole. Which presumably why they did not make any more. Shame. When A year in Provence first hit the TV screens , the reviews by so called critics were lukewarm to say the least. Viewing statistics plummeted throughout the series and ended up being watched by a handful of diehards. If the above info was correct , I can only imagine that the backbone of the british viewing public has been totally brainwashed into only watching what the critics recommend. This series is one of the finest productions that the media industry has ever produced. John Thaw and Lindsay Duncan are superb ,as are the multitude of French actors / Actresses. My particular favourites are Mon Collumbarnie (the plumber) and M Marcel (the Postman) . The scenery is gentle and relaxing as are the charming villages. The storyline of a diary ... Read More:

Without doubt the single worst programme I have ever seen. Do not buy this. It is obscure and forgotten for a reason. I bet the now well known actors in this don't include it on their CV. 0 STARS.
