The basic story is of Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong), who makes those cute little animal pictures that are going out of style. If he wants to stay in business he must add a female interest and some excitement. Circumstances forcing him to leave port quickly, he meets a girl Ann Darrow (Fay Wray), that is down on her luck and convinces her that he will make her a star (on the up and up).
Things get complicated, as you know it is bad luck to bring a woman onboard a freighter. And Ann really stirs them up including the first mate, Jack Driscoll (Bruce Cabot). On top of this she has a large date awaiting her at Skull Island.
I will not tell the rest of the story just incase you are one of the few that has missed the movie. But as you ... Read More:

One of the greatest movies ever made and certainly one of the most influential. With many memorable images and scenes,'King Kong' has stood the test of time no matter what the modern audience might think. This fantastic movie was made in 1933 and when you take this into account the effects are nothing short of amazing. Is it perfect?Well, the dialogue can be cheesy, the acting can be hammy and the close up of Kong's face never really convinces. But so what? This truly deserves to be the legend it is simply because it is the greatest fantasy film ever.Yes,'Lord Of The Rings' or 'Wizard Of Oz' are also marvels of cinema but for me it is Kong that stands above them all,the king of the movie world.

This is more of a reply to the previous review of this great movie.

The Region 2 version is available from Amazon, France, under the title " Monsieur Joe", through the "Editions Montparnasse" label. Unfortunately there are no techincal details, but I have had this label's DVD releases before, and there has always been an English soundtrack, and this was released after the Region 1 disc, so, hopefully, they have used the same print.

Hope this helps for those without a multi-regional DVD player, who wish to enjoy this enchanting film.

I could have done without the first 20 or so minutes of this silent film documentary which presented the camera crew's journey from Constantinople to the mountain foothills in Iran. Those scenes felt heavily edited and seemed tame compared to what the Bakhtiari tribesmen were going to go thru in the balance of the movie.

The remaining 50 minutes or so flew by as I watched these nomads with their pack animals and herds cross an icy river, climb the precipitous slopes of a mountain, cross its snowy summit before descending into a warm valley of pasture lands for their herds. It was an incredible glimpse of a vanishing lifestyle. The only defect in my view was the use jokey title cards (eg, "Brrr", "Brrr" when crossing the chilly river) ruining my sense of ... Read More:

I recently purchased this item, ----I am a life-long KONG fan, and this, ---by far my favourite-ever film,----is one movie I am extremely familiar with, having viewed it literally hundreds of times over the past 2 decades.

THIS PRINT is freshly-minted, richly-struck gold...by far the best I have ever witnessed, and this will be the version I will be sticking with 'til some super-hi-def version arrives: there is detail in this [the rippling water in KONG'S lair, lushly apparent jungle foilage,]that was until now invisible within the home entertainment market.

I resisted buying this, as I am UK resident, but fear not, the 2 KONG discs play fine in both my region 1 DVD players..had I known this, I would have purchased this 2 years previously: the ... Read More:

Made in tandem [in 1932] with RKO true classic 'KING KONG'-----[the two movies were shot 'day-and-night' using much of the same studio jungle sets]------this is a teriffic early talkie horror/suspense effort that is up there with many of the finest UNIVERSAL horrors from the same period.

Feauturing prime performances from FAY WRAY [no explanation of who she is neccessary] and ROBERT ARMSTRONG ['DENHAM', KONG'S showbiz charlatan captor] this views almost as a seperate thread to the classic events of KONG.

Also containing a memorable appearance by NOBLE JOHNSON [the tribal leader of the natives in KONG], here unrecognizable as baddie ZAROFF'S mute leading manservant. The plot recounts the tale of shipwrecked victims marooned on COUNT ZAROFF'S [LESLIE BANKS, in career ... Read More:

Though in no way can this compete in any way with the dynamic chills and melodramatic thrills of it's illustrious predecessor, this just-over-an-hour-long quickie works well enough, if simply classed within it's own terms: ie a non-fat, efficient comic-strip diversion of a movie.

Some fantasy fans deride this film, [KONG junior is a white albino, and a 'mere' 12 feet tall]which is often played for laughs, and many of the original KONG cast members [excluding WRAY] are present and correct, and unlike most sequels, this actually feels like a legitimate continuation of the original saga-----with the overall atmosphere and technique wholly consistent with 'KING KONG'.

The lesser budget shows, however, and NOBLE JOHNSON'S witchdoctor appearence is brief and unimpressive compared ... Read More:
