I purchased this DVD because we used to watch it at my grandparents on a Sunday and always loved it. All of those childhood memories came flooding back. It is such an enjoyable programme with such innocence that you wish you were living in that time.

As soon as the music starts it brings a smile to your face. I would really highly recommend this for a feel good hour worth of viewing to anyone that wants to get away from all the modern day humdrum and enjoy a simpler time.

I have just received a reply to my email from warners UK & they have confirmed to me that there will be no more Waltons seasons past season 4.
So you will have to buy it from the US (Region 1) or perhaps from amazon.de (Region 2). The only things against the german choice is the packaging & the cost, the dvd's are in English/german with English/German subtitles. The US version with English packaging would look nicer, & works out a bit cheaper but I'm waiting to find out if there are english subtitles (not just closed captions).

3.The Waltons: The Complete Seventh Season (REGION 1) (NTSC) starring: Robert Donner, Ronnie Claire Edwards, Nora Marlowe, Ralph Waite, Michael Learned

DVD : The Homecoming: A Christmas Story [1971] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
As a true Waltons fan I thought it my duty to purchase this DVD and so I recently did. One cannot help but make comparisons between the 'original' cast and the 'actual' cast in the series. Apart from the children and grandma Walton all characters are different and because the series' characters have had so much stronger presence the 'original' cast does not stand much of a chance of winning anyone over. The Baldwin sisters in this film look much more like sisters but one gets the feeling that they are less endearing.
Olivia in this film seems almost like a 'psycho', I am sorry if this seems harsh but at one stage John-boy appears almost frightened of her as she seems to be losing it. I wonder how she got through the original casting or perhaps ... Read More:

DVD : A Big Hand for the Little Lady [1966] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
What a cast of characters in A Big Hand for the Little Lady: Henry Drummond, a rich and irascible rancher who put his daughter's wedding on hold just as the vows were starting; Otto Habershaw, a slick, handsome and morally questionable lawyer. Habershaw left a client probably to hang when he ran from the courthouse and jumped on his horse just as he was supposed to sum up for the defense; Benson Tropp, wealthiest undertaker in the region, who has no use for women unless he's burying them; Dennis Wilcox, another wealthy rancher, a big, loud man who enjoys joking at other's expense; and Jesse Buford, small, aging and just as wealthy. He, Wilcox and all the others are sticklers for the rules. High stakes poker rules, that is.

And what a cast: ... Read More:

DVD : The Waltons: The Foundling [1972] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
The Foundling is the first episode of the first season of The Waltons, and it really is quite remarkable. You would be hard pressed to tell this was the first episode of the series, for one thing, as all of the qualities that made The Waltons such a wonderful, uniquely warm-hearted show, are all there on display. There is no effort made to somehow identify each of the characters for the audience, as this was from the very beginning a family rather than a grouping of characters. Granted, this was not the first time America had met this family. On December 19, 1971, The Homecoming aired on CBS, introducing America to the Walton family (originally, the Spencer family as described in Earl Hamner's novels and even a feature film from 1963 starring Henry Fonda ... Sissy Spacek guest stars as Sarah Simmonds in the "The Townie" (Episode#23, March 8, 1973). In a story line somewhat reminiscent of Spacek's Oscar nominated role in "Carrie," Sarah is a neighborhood girl being raised by a very religious mother (Allyn McLerie). Because she is good friends with John-Boy (Richard Thomas), Sarah decides that marrying him would be a good way of getting away from her repressive mother. However, John-Boy dismisses Sarah's ideas and becoming more desperate to gain some freedom she takes up with Theodore Albert Claypool, Jr., the son of a wealthy businessman and therefore a "Townie." The boy suffers from his own problems with his father and he decides to elope with Sarah, stealing some cash and the car from his father. When Sarah's mother ... Read More:

DVD : Patterns [1956] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I knew Patterns from well before the start of DVD technology, and it is a fine film.

There are three central characters at the top of a large corporation, the boss(Everett Sloane), an older man who was one of the original founders (Ed Begley), and a newcomer (Van Heflin). The Begley character is the epitome of decency, caring for the staff, so kind to his secretary that she is almost in tears when asked to work for Van Heflin. The Sloane character is not likeable, indeed does not want to be liked, but he knows how to run the business. And the Van Heflin character is also decent, so that he and the Begley character take an immediate liking to each other, but he is much better able to combine the need for decency with the needs of a large corporation.
