I was not even born when the first installment of Godfather came out in the theatres. But I always heard about it from all my elder family members, who had the chance to see the movie in the seventies. They always admired about it and its sequel that went into theaters in 1974. This June, when the Godfather trilogy box set came out, all the stories which I used to hear from other people came across my mind, and I immediately bought the Godfather trilogy box set, containing all three movies and two bonus discs covering the special features.
When I started watching the trilogy from part 1, it gripped me right from the beginning till the end. Director, Francis Ford Coppola dealt so many characters, beautifully, without hampering the pace ... Read More:

the godfather trilogy on blu ray look better than ever. Anyone who enjoys these films would know £34 or there abouts is very good value considering its got arguably the greatest film ever made among the collection...the picutre quality is utterly gomsmacking...I cannot tell the difference between most modern day films on Blu-Ray...
I have a 2ps3's with the latest firmware and a Panasonic 42" HD telly

Much has been documented about the mental breakdown of Coppola when directing modern war epic Apocalypse now. The amount of material shot (pardon the pun) was enough to make a film running at over at week - but several edits later we are left with a masterpiece of around two and a half hours in length.

Logistically speaking the film was a nightmare to get finished, after late minute recasts, Martin Sheen played the lead role whilst suffering from alcoholism and nearly died of a heart attack. His poor health lead to his own brother stepping in to double for him in many scenes. The script was constantly re-written and the ending was changed several times over in subsequent edits. The film went massively over budget, the sets were wrecked during ... Read More:

I have to agree with the other two recent reviews which found this movie less than entertaining. I fell asleep twice watching this - it's technically very good, yes, but entertaining? Certainly not. Give it a miss.

This blu-ray transfer is the collectors edition that was recently released on DVD and features the same 16:9 transfer and the same extras. If you are a fan of the movie, then I can only add here that the HD transfer is another gear or two up from the DVD and looks great at 1080p for a film of its age that was shot using some unorthodox old fashioned techniques and a lot of improvisation in places, as revealed in a fascinating feature amongst the plentiful extras, which includes a directors commentary, deleted scenes, a fascinating making of etc (including Gary Oldman throwing a strop and walking off set at one point - great fun!). It wasn't shot digitally so don't expect blu-ray miracles but its plenty good enough and a terrific film. The disc is coded A-B-C.

I had the original release of Apocalypse Now Redux and it is one of my favourite modern war films. When they release such an important film without extras I am disappointed, but after a six year wait it is finally here and in a steelbook as well. There are a wealth of extras including a commentary by Francis Ford Coppola, deleted scenes and featurettes about the making of the Redux version along with other features about the sound and video and Marlon Brando's full reading of T.S. Eliots poem "The Hollow Men" which featured briefly in the film

I would just like to let you know that the film is split onto two discs unlike previous releases. I don't know how many people are bothered by this. The only reason I mention this is that the previous release of Redux was on ... Read More:

How do you top the perfection of the original Godfather? How do you make another Godfather when all Michael's enemies were wiped out at the end of the first movie? How do you even DARE make another Godfather without Marlon Brando???

This is how. The Godfather Part II...A massive, sprawling epic movie that moves forwards and backwards at the same time to expand on the original and deepen it's meaning. It tells two stories at once; the story of the young immigrant Vito Corleone's rise to power in America (played by Robert De Niro instead of Marlon Brando this time, Like Brando, De Niro won an Oscar for it as well as having a song written about it by Bananarama "Robert De Niro's waiting, talking Italian") and of his son Michael's (played by Al Pacino)consolidation of his crime empire four ...
