Unfortunately I don't. I was hoping for a sophisticated French comedy but I hated this film. I truly didn't laugh once - and I couldn't even use it to improve my French because of the English subtitles. Not a single likeable character and an execrable farcical situation, but then I suppose that was the idea.

Daniel Auteuil is Pignon, a man who's considered to be boring, straight laced, and rather uninteresting. When Santini (Gérard Depardieu) and his friends suggest Pignon should be sacked - Pignon decides to end it all. It's only because of a new found friend he finds a way to fool the masses at the condom factory and keep his job.

This isn't as funny as Le Diner De Cons nor Tais-Toi; but they're classics and it's hard to follow such a great act, but it's a very good film, Gérard is very funny as macho man Felix, and the welcome return of Thierry Lhermitte, one of Felix's friends. I also enjoyed the roles played by his secretaries: Michèle Laroque (Madame Bertrand) and Alexandra Vandernoot (Christine), as they had some great ... Read More:

I saw this film on TV the other day. I only caught it by chance as it followed something else I was watching, and was going to switch off but I was too busy emailing a friend. Within 10 mins I was laughing out loud. This is a lovely, silly, heartwarming film - it was a real surprise & a joy. I haven't laughed so much in ages. I'm fed up with all the hype for some 'so called' comedy films which can't even raise a smile with my family.
Don't miss this one though!
I highly recommend it to anyone who loves real comedy films.*****

Jean Reno is Ruby, a dangerous criminal (well considered to be anyway). He's been framed for a murder and has decided to take vengeance: and finds himself in jail.

Quentin, played by star Gérard Depardieu, is an idiot, he's really clueless and when he holds up a foregn exchange bureau he really does land himself in trouble. He's sent to jail too, only to fight with people - funnily enough, he wins.

The big meet up happens when Ruby is left with Quentin in a cell, as Ruby won't talk, he's put with the very annoying Quentin and his cell is bugged. What they don't realise is that these two are going to sort out their differences in a bid for freedom.

This is a very funny film from director of Le Dîner de cons, ... Read More:

DVD : Tais Toi! (Ruby & Quentin) [2006]
Tais-Toi!/Ruby and Quentin reunites Francis Veber with Jean Reno and Gerard Depardieu, but it isn't up to the standard of his previous collaborations with either star. An amiable throwback to the Depardieu/Pierre Richard comedies (Les Comperes, Les Fugitifs and Le Chevre, remade as Father's Day, Three Fugitives and Pure Luck), with Reno in the Depardieu tough-guy role and Depardieu taking Richard's as the clinging genial idiot, it's a pleasant rainy day movie with a few good jokes but not enough to make it stick in the memory despite the sight of the two stars in drag. But, if in the next few years you see a Hollywood comedy about an idiot on the run from a prison asylum with a revenge seeking hardened con, you'll at least remember where the idea came ... ... but I found myself helpless with laughter, tears streaming down my face at various points. Great farce, enormous fun. Can't quite see why some critics get so exercised about what is ultimately a harmless but nonetheless delightfully entertaining piece

DVD : La Chevre [1981] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Remade less successfully as Pure Luck, the first of Pierre Richard and Gerard Depardieu's three teamings for writer-director Francis Veber, La Chevre is still the best of the bunch. Richard's the idiot accountant assigned to find a missing girl in South America simply because he's every bit as accident-prone as she is, while Depardieu's the worldly private eye who has to pretend to be working for him while really running the case and trying to keep him out of trouble. You can pretty much fill in the gaps from there, but that doesn't make it any less funny. Richard's pratfalls work not just because they're unsensationally directed rather than heavily telegraphed (one even takes place out of focus in the background) but because, like Clouseau, Richard's character ... This film was a wonderful discovery and proved to be a great family film for us and teenage daughter. She said she wasn't sure when it began if she was going to like it but stuck with it and loved it.

None of us speak French so relied on the subtitles to a certain extent. However the actor playing M. Pignon is superb - masterly comic timing and you couldn't help but watch him. The whole cast delivered great perfomances while the plot developed at a good pace, spinning the situation further out of control. We all laughed out loud.

I can highly recommend this comedy if you are looking for something better than average.

Martin Short is terrified of welfare taking his daughter from his care. So, with a blast of wisdom, he decides to rob a bank and escape to Canada with his daughter and live happily ever after. Nick Nolte on the other hand, has just been released from prison for bank robbery. Vowing to go straight and never return to prison, Nick walks into a bank to open an account, when Short enters.... The gut busting laughter flows from there. You WILL enjoy this film.
