This film had a huge impact on me when I watched it growing up. Yes it is a long film and at times it is heavy going but stick with it. Amazing performances from McQueen and Hoffman. This is the greatest true story of escape ever told. The ending is the most moving, sad and thought provoking I've seen in a film. Long after the credits have gone you will still have Papillon in your head. They don't make films like this anymore.

This is a nice movie. I saw it as a child and it was no edited in France. I bought it here on amazon. It is written that the movie is subtitled in french. But this is not the case! Amazon, you should check the informations before showing it on your site! So for the french people who don't speak english, don't buy this DVD because you may not understand a word!

This film is very scary, not scary in the horror/gore/chiller sense, but certainly in the 'what if that happened' sense.
Lots of young Hitler's all over the world all growing up with the
possiblity of you know what.

Another thing that is outstanding in this film is the
actors. It is one of the few films that i could imagine the two
leads could have played each others role with ease.

I think of how evil Peck played the part of Mengele yet how i have seen
him in many films as the good guy ie mockingbird, omen and how easy
it would have been for him to play the nazi hunter instead.
Then you have Olivier playing the old jewish nazi hunter but remember his
role in Marathon man? He ... Read More:

There's a lot to recommend this, and it's a great film. The scale of the movie is as epic as the giant ego leading the Third Army around Europe. Patton was clearly one of a kind, a brilliant leader who had a fantastic way with words, and possibly the least subtle human being alive.

The screenplay is extremely good and the filming is superb. You really feel what is going on in WWII events of the time, and Patton's frustration and will to fight is what drove him and his men.

George C Scott won an Oscar, he should've won about twelve.

A really fine and resonant film. Brilliant historical detail and great acting by Heston, Guy Stockwell and Richard Boone. Rosemary Forsyth is lovely and plays a rather undeveloped part well. Set design, costume and action scenes are first class, script is a bit heavy-handed but a tremendously entertaining and rewarding film.

Astronauts are sent to a distant plane and crash. They find a barren wasteland and look for a place to survive. They fond more than the bargain for when the tables are turned and Apes rule the day.
Will they make friends or be sliced and diced?
Can the ever get back?
What would you do?

Now after that radical statement I know different media calls for different handling of the story. And most movies do not live up to the book. However some exceed the book. Surprise this is the "don't live up to the book" one. If you thought that the movie was insightful, surprising and shocking the first time you saw it. Then you defiantly have lower expectations than the reader does. Especially with such a botched ending; the ending changed the whole purpose ... Read More:

Another ITV hard-to-get release on blu-ray. As i really think this movie is of great value to my collection i didn't hesitate one second to order it. Yes, first of all- the DD Mono soundtrack doesn't give your home entertainment system any good moments but the movie itself is worth it. The picture quality on the other hand is really good!

Buy it if you liked it on VHS/DVD

As for the plot- pure fantasy. The nazis with Mengeles help created Hitler's offspring. It's always good that people know that Mengele was a brutal and senseless (so called) doctor even is the movies story isn't true.
