As one of the other reviewers has already said, only 2 series and definitely better for it. That's part of what makes this a classic comedy. It's the type of series you can watch over and over, know what lines are coming and be laughing at them before you get to them. The thought of "Keiths antie Dot from Cockermouth ate a raffia drinks coster" still has me howling out loud even after the several hundredth time I've heard it. There are so many classic moments in this series, it's simply impossible to name anywhere near all of them. It's absolutely superb and, let's face it, with the geniuses that are Victoria Wood and Julie Walters at the helm, how could this be anything less than sheer brilliance?

Two live shows on one disc,'the man who thinks he's it' recorded live at The Palace Theatre in Manchester and 'live 'n' lewd' performed live at London's Lyceum theatre.
All his favourite characters appear,Alan Partridge,Paul and Pauline Calf,Tony Ferrino,Ernest Moss and the irritating Duncan Thicket, plus glimpses of Steve backstage.
This really is laugh a minute comedy with Paul 'i hate students' Calf and sister Pauline stealing the show during nearly three hours worth of material.
Fans of Steve Coogan will love this and i am so glad i decided to add this to my collection,it was the best night out i've had in years.

I had difficulty in deciding which season of The Young Ones to review as they are very similar, as such I chose season 2 for the simple fact that it features my favourite episode, 'Bambi'.

The Young Ones, like The Comic Strip Presents was a "must-watch" when I was a teenager in the early 80's, if you missed it you were left out of the conversations at school the following day, it was that much of a cult.
Now that is where the problem lies for I feel almost embarrassed now to even admit to myself that I still like it, it is that much of a teenage "thing".

The whole concept of Alternate Comedy (AC) appealed to me from the beginning, I like most types of comedy and to have a series that featured four of the founding members of the ... Read More:

You've got to love this show; it's just a shame the DVD's are edited and BBC don't seem to be bothered about releasing any more material. The BBC has released Red Dwarf, Blackadder etc on DVD in their entirety and un-edited but Not the Nine O'Clock News appears to have been overlooked. Extras and bonus features would be nice but BBC please, please, please give the show the respect it deserves and release the full series' and unedited.

This was one of the finest hours of the Wood and Walters team. Acorn Antiques was a five minute item in the mid 1980s series "Victoria Wood as seen on TV". This DVD gathers all the Acorn Antiques episodes from both series of "As seen on TV".

Acorn Antiques is heavily based on "Crossroads" (the original series, not the glossy resurgence of 2001). If you ever cringed through Crossroads, you will love this. I was lucky enough to hear on Crossroads, live, the immortal fluffed line "But David, she's the father of Hugh's child!"

Acorn Antiques mercilessly spears the low-budget soap, showing the world behind the scenes as well as the world in front of the camera (though often the two worlds literally collide). Other soaps get a look-in, as in the reference to the programme's ... Read More:

The Young Ones first appeared on BBC2 in 1982 in a complete lack of publicity and advertising that would be unheard of today. At that time I'd never heard of `The Comic Strip' comedy club where Ade Edmondson, Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer and Alexi Sayle had been effectively honing these characters for some time. I initially tuned in as the pilot episode was noted, in that weeks Radio Times, to feature music from Nine Below Zero whom as a R'n'b band jumping up and down on the Mod revival bandwagon which put them pretty much on my radar at that time.

What a revelation, no one had made a sit-com like it before, changing scenes with links by dodgy puppets, cartoon violence, surrealism, clever wordplay and familiar stereotyped characters, it was fantastic. It was discussed in the playground ... Read More:

Given the rave reviews here, I can only assume that the three reviewers are siblings of the production team, or maybe one of their nans. I love comedy shows, and I love the work of armstrong and sheersmith in armstrong and miller, and the first two series of league of gentlemen. Sadly i cannot warn you strongly enough to avoid this series. it is absolutely awful - shockingly bad given the talent of the main two actors. the script is appalling, i watched the first episode and found it to be entirely laugh free. in fact coronation street is funnier. i should have realised that there was a very good reason why a second service was not commissioned. i will sell anyone my copy for a quid. box and disc in good condition, product barely used.

DVD : Harry Enfield And Chums 1997 [1994]
I have mixed feelings about the 1997 Harry Enfield series, to be honest. After three great series, this came as something of a disappointment. That's not to say it was bad. It just doesn't have the edge of previous material. It certainly has some great sketches involving past characters such as Kevin fancying his teacher, the Old Gits being generally nasty, the Slobs hitting the jackpot and the Randy Old Ladies still hunting young men. Some of the new characters such as the father trying to cope with having a homosexual son, Mr Dead, Il Postilio Pat and the Amsterdam policeman are equally hilarious. A lot of the other material, however, is just dross. Bringing back the Self-Righteous Brothers was a mistake. They weren't funny the first time round. Lee and Lance are clearly past it here as well. ... Read More:

DVD : Harry Enfield's Television Programme - Series 2: Part 1 [1990]
This is Harry Enfield at his best. In the second series, characters like the Slobs, the Old Gits, Nice-But-Dim Tim and the Scoucers really get into full swing. These three episodes also contain the classic football match (a team from the '40s versus a '90s team), the Blind Date sketch, the Playboys, English For Aliens and a TV show featuring comparisons on the lives of a working-class man (Wayne Slob) and an upper-class man (Tim). Mention must also go to Paul Whitehouse, Kathy Burke, Jon Glover and Martin Clunes - all great actors and hilarious in their varied roles.

Come on, BBC. Release all Harry Enfield's BBC TV series (or the first three at least) in their complete form on DVD. These are classics which deserve to shine again.
