One of the best horror anthologies to come out of the early 80s and one I practically grew up with. Using a very clever homage to the old EC horror comics and with it's black swollen tongue stuck firmly in it's skeletal cheek, this film takes us through a series of absolutely brilliant macabre stories specially written by Stephen King.

Classics include the wrath of a father who just wants his cake, a vengeful murderous husband who gets in some serious deep water..*snigger*, a hapless fool who should never have touched a fallen meteor, a desperately unhappy man finding the perfect alternative to a divorce thanks to the unlikely discovery of a crate and a contemptible tycoon with a phobia of bugs getting just what he deserves. There's ... Read More:

I bought this film under the impression that it was great film, how wrong I was. The acting is wooden, the people seem like they are enjoying being stuck in a mall full of dead caniballs. The zombies make-up is appalling, they look crap, and the film is over 2 hours long, making it unbearable to watch. Avoid this trash at all costs and watch the remake as it is 100 times better.

Romero once again adds to the canon with healthy measures of bloody paranoia, claustrophia and violence permeating the efforts of a dwindling number of living humans to find temporary respite from the growing numbers of zombie dead.

Reviewers are often fond of looking for some subtext within these films. Dawn of the Dead had its obvious message about consumerism - are these dead people behaving any differently from when they were alive? Probably not.

Here we can see the message is the brutal control of the civilian and scientific populations by a harried and panicked military group in the aftermath of the end of the society. These people have literally burrowed underground into the dark to survive. The sole doctor resorts to ... Read More:

I'm a huge fan of George A Romero and his films, however I was dissapointed with his latest entry, it wasnt so much the acting which with a few exceptions was very weak. It was the script which I really think let the film down, George Romero's previous "Dead" films have had very subtly context, such as in Dawn of the Dead he commented on commercialisation. He also had very rich characters in these previous films. But in Diary of the Dead the characters are so thin it almost becomes laughable, it is also very hard to care for most of the characters, especially the "Director" of the film who just stands around filming whilst his girlfriend is attacked by zombies. You also have the well spoken english drunk who often imparts his wisdom which makes you shout, "well duhh" ... Read More:

Land of the Dead is a film that you can watch once, and once only. It was enjoyable enough but it is no classic. Even though the gore is quite good and there is nothing wrong with the acting, it just didn't feel like the usual zombie flick. Rent it or buy it cheap.

It began with George A. Romero and a black and white film whose final scene informed the audience exactly what this genre should be all about. If you haven't watched that film please do not comment on this one or go to the bother of giving it a negative review.

You are wrong.

Every single one of these films are allegorical, insightful and thought provoking but because of the visceral aspects are disregarded as populist trash designed for teenagers with a lust for gore and mindless violence.

Diary Of The Dead is no exception.

Watch it, think about it, enjoy it. Then be frightened by today's society. Because that's what it is about.

As well as a lust for brains.

Im a massive fan of all zoombie films and this one gets the big thumbs down-tries to play it at the blair witch filming style with a terrible outcome!
acting is very very poor and is just genreally a poor film!

wouldnt suggest buying this atall as it doesnt even compare to the classics such as dawn of the dead, day of the dead etc

save yourself £15 or so.
