What a fantastic print we now have of this film since the original cinerama has now been restored and the three joins of the original can no longer be seen. Finally the film can be seen in glorious depth and colour with both images in the foreground and background in crystal clarity.

A fantastic commentary is also added by filmmaker David Strohmaier, Director of Cinerama, Inc. John Sitting, Film Historian Rudy Behlemer, Music Historian Jon Burlingame and Stuntman Loren James which throws so much new light on the making of the movie.

For those who have never seen the film; sit back and enjoy.

For those who have seen the film many times on TV or video, and longed for the day.....welcome for the first time ... Read More:

"Bourbon, straight, with a bourbon chaser." That's Johnny Morrison's drink. Johnny's just been discharged from the Navy, along with two of his pals who were under his command. There's George Copeland (Hugh Beaumont), easy going and loyal, and Buzz Wancheck (William Bendix), big and burly, just as loyal to Johnny as George is, with a metal plate in his head, a variable memory and who sometimes goes into rages.

Johnny leaves his two pals in a Los Angeles hotel and goes to The Cavendish Court in the evening to meet his wife, Helen (Doris Dowling). The Cavendish is a high priced hotel with private bungalows, a careless attitude about parties and an aging security man who doesn't mind taking a few under-the-table dollars for various ... 'How the West was Won' was the forerunner of widescreen cinema and was originally shot as a cinerama (curved screen) movie. Warner have made an excellent job of creating a widescreen letterbox transfer (without the three-panel vertical line joins) of this classic western from 1963 which features a myriad of screen giants such as Gregory Peck, Carrol Baker, James Stewart, Lee J Cobb, Karl Malden, John Wayne, George Peppard, Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark and Debbie Reynolds, amongst others. Like the more recent 'Deadwood', this movie was the work of more than one director (Henry Hathaway, John Ford and George Marshall in this case) and is essentially split into three historical periods whilst also following the fate of one particular family from ... So that you know what great value for money this set really is, here's a list of movies contained in this box set.

I can understand why you might be wary of spending your hard earned cash on this box set when Amazon have unaccountably failed to list the movies it contains... odd since the Amazon DVD rental system provides a complete list - so the info is in Amazon's databases somewhere...c'mon Amazon I thought you were slicker than that!

Anyway, here's the list of the 6 movies contained in this box set:

The Lady is Willing,

Shanghai Express (highly recommended by me, see those breathtaking railway station sets!)

Destry Resides Again

A sequel if you like to"the cat and the canary"Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard reunite for more haunted house thrills and laughs. Not quite as good, but not far behind.Picture quality good on the whole(far superior to "the cat and the canary",which was awful.Orbit Media responsible for both,by the way)and a small part of the film has been cut(inside the castle)But worth buying anyway!!!

This must stands up along side 'It's A Wonderful Life' for a quality Jimmy Stuart film. A great story: Mild mannered sheriff arrives to clean up a town run by crooks and gunslingers. Marlene Dietrich plays a superb saloon singer and 'moll', anyone who has seen 'Blazing Saddles' can see where Brookes got his character from, which is a homage rather than a lampoon. A classic western which manages to encompass suspense, comedy, romance and vivid characterization. Hollywood at its very best.

Settle back and watch the greatest comedy double act, in both an excellent full length movie (68mins) as well as two shorts (21mins and 19mins).

'Pack Up Your Troubles' is not quite up there with 'Sons of the Desert' or 'Way Out West' but at just over the hour its funny and entertaining. L&H join up (or rather are joined up) to fight in the first world war in 1917. There best friend is killed in the war leaving behind a very young daughter who L&H have to look after until they can locate the Grandparents. The main problem is that the sirname they are looking for is Smith. This leads to a multitude of mishaps and misunderstandings.
