First things first - watch it at all costs if only for a young Kirsten Dunst. I can't imagine a better Amy and whenever I go back to the book I always imagine her in the part. Full of life, adorable and hilarious. There's a bit I just love, where Jo says "Stop sulking, Amy, you look like a pigeon", and Amy leans back, rolls her eyes and gives a sulky couple of 'coo's. Sadly, she gets cut two thirds of the way through for a 'grown-up' Amy, who is all right but nothing to write home about.

I wanted to like it, but the film as a whole is pretty flawed. The pace is monotonous and some of the best scenes of the book are cut and replaced with dull dialogue. Because the film is of both Little Women books, a lot of character development ... Read More:

This, for me, was a less spectacular Fitzcarraldo, but where the magnificent obsession in that film was triumphantly brought off by Klaus Kinski, in this film the half-crazy idea of transporting the glass church did not quite have the same plausibility, perhaps because the necessity for overland travel was by reason of the Reverend's dislike of the sea, yet he had already travelled to Australia that way, so...

The basic story is of a boy who defects from some Protestant sect, I think the Plymouth Brethren (infamous amumni and earlier defectors: the blacl magician Aleister Crowley and the 1940's acid-bath murderer, Haigh) to join the Church of England, being then raised by a vicar and his wife in what is said to be 19th Century Devon but looks much ... This is a tragic winter tale, base on the true story of brothers Ed and Jack Biddle, and their escape from a Pittsburgh jail at the turn of the century. Mel Gibson uses an American accent on screen for the first time, giving a superb performance as the handsome older brother, charming a seemingly helpless Diane Keaton until she helps them escape into the snowy covered countryside, leaving her husband and children behind.

The cinematography and locations are excellent, with suitably muted colours creating a very atmospheric backdrop, accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack.

A very moving story.

What a wonderful film this is- out on DVD at last - if you haven't seen it - you are in for a treat. The story of the feisty and talented Syblla Melvyn(Judy Davis), stuck on a impoverished farm in 1900 outback Australia- her dreams of fame, her clashes with established mores, her heart breaking romance with the the wealthy and handsome Harry Beecham (Sam Neill) - are beautifully captured. Every thing about this film is as good as I remembered it - every scene is taut and clear- screenplay the score is evocative and memorable, the lush and beautiful settings, the excellent acting, especially Judy Davis and Sam Neill, would appeal to anyone who loves period films, getting of wisdom type films, just about anyone. A wonderful screen play by Eleanor Whitcombe brought ... Read More:

Watch it for Phil Judd! Swingers! Cheerful, silly, and fun. Fantastic soundtrack, kitsch fashion, and Phil Judd. Did I mention that Phil Judd is in it? What other reason could you possibly need for buying this?

I watched the movie, and it went to the top of my all time greatest favourites. Cate and Billy I thought were exceptional performers, and the scenery and involvement with France was a lovely portayal. Always believing that a book is always better than a movie, I couldn't wait to read it, having loved the film, but was terribly disappointed. I thought the book was too deep, too long winded, and since I'm a huge Billy Crudup fan, I was disappointed Sebastian Faulks portrayed him as being quite a weak figure! The book I would give 3/10, the movie 10/10.

I bought this being a fan of Vincent D'Onofrio from Criminal Intent fame. Vincent as always was brilliant but I expected the film to centre on the relationship between Vincent and Greta but it doesn't, it centres on the relationship with Greta and Jimmy Smits. This does not mean that the film is 'rubbish', it's not, it's very well acted by all involved. There is however a feeling of the film not quite reaching its full potential and seems to centre on the political problems in Cuba not in the relationship of Vincent and Greta and the decisions that she has to make on the emergence of her husband (Smits).

All in all, a good film but I was waiting for a revelation in the film that sadly never occured.

I would say buy it but to be honest I doubt ... Read More:
