I recall seeing these two films many years ago during their initial release, and being a Doctor Who fan, welcomed them in this 2 disc box set.

They are rather dated now, with cheap looking sets, exaggerated colour, and camp acting. But they are also a fond look back at the early years of Doctor Who, which by the time these films had been released the series had been broadcast by BBC Television since November 1963.

The first story based on the original transmission which was shown between December 1963 and February 1964 remains to this day one of the all time classic Doctor Who. The film version however, seems a rather rushed affair covering the basic storyline when the Doctor lands on the planet Skaro and finds an abandoned ... Read More:

At the time of its original broadcast in 1983 this was the programme everyone talked about at school, which was no mean feat considering that the last episode was transmitted before the start of the school term.

This is down in no small part to the engaging performances given by David Morrissey as Billy and Spencer Leigh as Icky; their rough demeanour clashed with just about everyone they came into contact with regardless of whether they were at home or in Wales, where they run away after Billy fears arrest and Icky fears losing his best mate and guardian.

The choice to use film instead of video paid in spades as the contrasting urban and rural landscapes were captured beautifully, as was the mood of these communities (despair in ... Read More:

In spite of some minor flaws in picture and sound quality these disc are worth every penny.
The mono soundtrack sounds a bit dull to those who are used to multi channel encoded discs in the Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS format, but all in all sound quality is really good considering this series were made more than three decennia ago. The picture quality is absolutely fabulous for a series from 1967. I've never seen The Avengers in such bright colours. When I first saw them on television they looked much more faded and less colourful.

The episodes themselves are all very enjoyable to watch. Being a great fan of the series I have to say that I'm very fond of the first colour episode "From Venus With Love". The reason for that is quite simple: It was the ... Read More:

It's hard for me to be objective about this film because it remains such a vivid memory from ten years ago when I first saw it, but in terms of its great production design and atmospheric location filming, it's streets ahead, and indeed far more impressive, than its woefully cheap small-screen counterpart (The Dalek Invasion of Earth) from the Dr Who series. The Dalek saucer, with its concentrically turning platforms, is one of the finest spaceships in cinema history and the various scenes of the Daleks gliding about a ruined London are brilliantly executed. Call me mad, but I even like Bernard Cribbins.

A definate yes to buy this film - even 38 years on from its first big-screen appearance it still looks delightfully impressive.

This 1977 biopic, which was advised by Phillip Knightley, cannot be faulted for distortion of the known facts of the case, although they are so compressed that they seem to have been forced into a telescope backwards. It can, however, be faulted for its egregiously shoddy production values. The entire enterprise, in fact, reminds me of one of those dreadful after-school specials that they used to air on American television, in which the producers were flogging some topical issue such as the dangers of teen promiscuity or substance abuse (in this case, the dangers of Soviet espionage). As with the teen specials, the leading actors (Anthony Bate as Philby, and Derek Jacobi as Burgess) are excellent, but the story itself is merely a recitation of events, with no pace, ... Read More:

I think this movie is brilliant. When all the daleks were shoting eachother i thought that was very funny. The best part was when ian got into the daleks body.

DVD : Doctor Who Collector's Edition - Doctor Who And The Daleks / Daleks Invasion Earth - 2150 AD [1965]
This 1965 film and it's 1966 sequel "Daleks-Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.".Were made cheaply and quickly to capitilise on the immense success the Daleks were having on the kids of Britain at that time.(Myself included)
You could buy Dalek toys, sweets, wallpaper,Pyjamas and slippers, sounds familiar doesn't it?
The reason the Doctor was changed to an eccentric "Professor type" from an Alien were for reasons of simplicity. At that time the Doctor Who TV show was not playing in as many countries as it is now, so no complicated and time consuming Back story would be needed,
and it made audience identification that much easier with the various members of the cast.

This Film of the Daleks is good if you a real doctor who fan.(like me) The sets are good and the daleks are like the original. Im a bit dissopinted that the Doctor is not a timelord nor susan. The one thing i did notice was the lights on the Daleks actually flash to what they are saying (Unlike i the series!) The tharls are a bit over dressed but it adds to the magic ...if you wish. Over all a good film and i wonder if there is going to be another...i rate it 4 star!
