Series 4 of the new Doctor Who has been in my opinion, one of the finest series ever. David Tennant remains as brilliant as ever, and if anything changes, it's that he can only get better as time goes on. Catherine Tate, has surprised and amazed me, with her portrayal of Donna Noble in this series, making the character such a credible, efficient and lovable assistant to the Doctor.

All this excellence continues in this fine volume of the fourth series, as Russell T Davies revives another old villainous race from the Doctor's past, introduces more allies and facts from the Time Lord's past (the older series to be exact) and includes some more good old interaction with one of history's greatest figures.

Watching this for the first time since its TV run, I found it hard to believe that it dates only from the mid-90's. Its gentle humor.. the infantile stupidity of it's stars played out with such obvious and effortless delight by Jasper Carrot and Robert Powell...the jokes that only 12 years ago were classic examples of the endearing British ability to laugh at human foilables and yet now leave you open mouthed and thinking 'how on Earth did they get away with that?'.

Every episode in this series is vintage British comedy full of laugh out loud one liners. One exchange had me in tears - Powell, after trying to impress the 6th form girls in a posh boarding school with an over the top Sherlock Holmes routine ('there's nothing wrong with a spring-autumn ... This, the fifth and final series of The Detectives contained some of the very best episodes, including Cardiac Arrest where the hapless duo have to guard an armed robbery suspect in hospital and fall prey to Louis' hypochondria as well as The Beast Of Hackney Marshes - the best episode ever where they try and track down the source of mysterious goings on in the Marshes and spend the night there with Nozzer, the uniformed sergeant wonderfully played by Tony Selby.
Unlike many other comedy series, the final series of this wonderful show went out on a high and is defintely recommended to all. As a bonus, it also includes the 1997 Christmas Special Go West Gold Man which concluded the series in great style.

I never watch Doctor Who, I always thought of it as dumb sci-fi, so I was surprised when I saw these three episodes on TV. If you've never watched Doctor Who before, buy this DVD first before any others (although there's some in-jokes there that you don't get if you're not a fan).

There are three episodes on here and the first up is Human Nature, where a school teacher dreams of havign adventures in space. Worst episode on the disc, but still very scary. Baines, the villain is a brilliant actor and those scarecrows are... scary.

THe second is the second part of Human Nature; Family of Blood. More Baines, more scarecrows, and some truly sad moments. Paul Cornell is a brilliant writer and all the actors are incredible.

Such a shame this great series is blighted by edits. Take the episode Chrissie for example, only 51 minutes on this DVD, nearly 8 mins short of the originaly shown series on the Beeb. I will still buy the rest of the series, but they will always be short of the magic 5 stars if they are edited too.

The Idiot's Lantern is by far the worst Dr Who episode ever made. If I wanted to watch a house full of squabbling, cliched & over-sterotyped characters I would watch an episode of Neighbours. But I'm being too harsh on Neighbours - even at its worst, the characters in Neighbours have more depth and are more believable than those that bicker their way through The Idiot's Lantern. I suppose this was supposed to be some kind of social commentary - but setting up a strawmen like Eddie, just to kick him down, is a puerile way to make a point. This episode is a disgrace to the Dr Who series :( The Rise of the Cybermen and the Age of Steel are worth a watch if you like the Cybermen.

I never saw this adventure when it was on telly. And due to very poor quality DVD's I've still not seen it. I've now had four copies of this series from Amazon and other suppliers, and all of the discs have a fault which means thay can't play past chapter 2 of the first episode. And it's not just my DVD player, I've tried each disc on three players, and none of them work. Conclusion - there is a fault with this series that makes it unplayable.

These two series of the House of Eliott is a delight to watch. They are fun and full of different adventures of the two sister Evie and Bea. It is a delight and is a must for any one who likes British drama. I highly recomend them both. I cannot wait to see three.

Well, after the mass protest, we finally see the release of the last series of "JB", focussing a little more on Kate's personal life and the pressures of being a woman in authority on one hand and trying to break the obstacles to advancement in a male dominated workforce. Each episode takes place along a chronological continuum and manages to stay varied. Threads include personal tragedy in PC Kelleher's family and ( the only negative) the personal relationship between Kate and DCI Perrin, in which he seems to lose his authority and is portrayed as a sort of lonesome puppydog, waiting around, always asking her out, The rest of the characters are as usual- good value. I knew something bad was to happen in the final episode but as I was only 11 when it was first aired I couldn't remember what it was. ... Read More:
