As a rule, mini series have aspired to the label `epic'. By having starrier cast names, bigger sets, and of course more worldwide locations. This early mini series from the late 70's did something different - it kept the same location - the fictional town of Centennial, and charted the creation and evolution of the land and then the town, and the people that came and had an impact. So instead of the characters being large and the locations serving to tell us about the characters, the people are the ephemeral ones, passing through and hoping to leave their stamp on history. I watched this show every week when it aired here in england, and had almost forgotten about it untill i saw it was available here on Amazon. William Shatner is wonderful as TJ Hooker, who, after his partner is killed and he himself is seriously wounded; turns his back on the gold badge and goes back to the beat and to trianing new rcruits. Adrian Zmed (Grease 2) is wonderful as Rookie Vincent Romano who is partnered with Hooker. hooker really cares and feels the pain of those who are the victims of crime. None more so when poainful memories are dragged up as Romano is wounded and Hooker helps him face his fears while fending off a false charge that he shot and killed an unarmed young man. i was so glad i took another look at TJ Hooker revisit the days when T.V was this ... I bought this box-set with some doubts as some of the reviews mentioned it didnt play on british dvd players - be in no doubt - this box-set is Region 2 (as advertised) and plays perfectly on all u.k. dvd players. Recommended for all fans of 80's cult shows - great quality and covers all episodes, great stuff!

If you like TV shows such as TJ Hooker from the 80s then look a little bit further back and you will find this great show, i came across it by accident and have told everyone i know who love the same sort of stuff as me - 70s,80s detective/cop shows This show deals with edgy issues without the in your face moralistic stance of other 70s shows such as Quincy and is grittier than most but dont get me wrong it has humour also so theres something for everyone. This has got to be the best live gig recording ever done concerning MAGNUM..Bob Catley is in fine voice throughout the 90 minutes..I have seen others they have done where he is obviously worn out by too many nights and fails to keep tune...but thats probably not his fault...but on this night he excels as a frontman with style and the sound of the band is pure heaven...one is tricked into thinking this is a studio recording sound due to the fabulous quality. I searched for this for many years...and as someone said...why is it not on DVD..I shall wait and keep looking..but for now..I truly do have the very best of Magnum..
