As a long-time otaku I tend to deliberately avoid 'hyped' series, with the reasoning that I 'don't want to like it just because its being shoved down my throat by everyone else in all of fandom.' This reasoning is occasionally justifiable-I found I could probably live without Naruto quite comfortably, however every now and then this philosophy of mine comes back to bite me in the rear end. One instance of this was Death Note, which I ignored to my detriment for a year. The second is the utterly astounding Haruhi Suzumiya, and let me tell you now...IT LIVES UP TO THE HYPE. Its very hard to pin down just what exactly makes this show so special, but you simply can't watch it without feeling like you've been smacked in the face by one of the greatest ... Read More:

After many adventures and many more misadventures the SOS Brigade return once more for the last volume of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
What Kyon thinks will be a normal school culture festival turns out to be pretty bizarre. For starters, Haruhi's surreal movie has just been released, Yuki becomes a freakily accurate fortune teller, Mikuru is working at the cosplay cafe and Itsuki is in a play. and to top that all off, Haruhi and Yuki join a rock band, which to Kyon's surprise aren't half bad.
The wierdness and the laughs continue in the second episode on this disc, 'The day of Sagittarius'. The computer club has made their own war video game and they have chalenged the SOS brigade to an all out battle. Being the arrogant character ... Read More:

Following the events of the first volume of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, volume 2 continues the misadventures of the SOS brigade and Haruhi Suzumiya's ongoing search for anything strange and abnormal in the universe like time travellers, ESPers and aliens. In these four episodes we encounter, homicidal school students, huge destructive monsters, parallel worlds and to top it all off, a game of baseball.

This volume begins with a different style and tone to the last volume, It is quite dark and there is a fair amount of explanation and dialogue as the story is progressed. However, this is not to say it is not as good as the last volume.
The story that is brought towards us in this installment is nothing short of fascinating. I ... Read More:

This increasingly popular cult anime TV show continues to entertain as it moves onto it's third DVD volume.

Haruhi Suzumiya, who was dealing with a 'slight' melancholy in the last volume, is now back to her good old hyper self as she continues her search for all things strange and unusual. However, odd things are closer than they seem in episode 9 when Haruhi creates the SOS Brigade Logo for their website. Only to have it suck anyone who looks at it into an alternate dimension. All of this is unbeknownst to Haruhi; much to Kyon's displeasure, as he and the others therefore have to clean up the mess. This episode, entitled 'Mysterique sign' is another demonstation of the wierd and dangerous powers of Haruhi.
The remaining two episodes ... Read More:

I was stunned to find my Haruhi special edition volume 2 had arrive today!! Stunned and delighted!! (No one told me it dispatched....And thank you Amazon for the fast delivery!!)

I knew what bonus's came with this volume, and was excited to see what the armband was like. I, for one, am pleased, like most Haruhi fans should be. Much better quality than the ribbon in the first SE volume. The CD is again awesome, with a sweet pic of Aya Hirano on the front and 4 tracks on it to boot. Bouken Descho Desho?, Kazeyomi Ribbon, and the karaoke versions of both those songs. We have the pencil board once again and the Haruhi transfer.

Possibly the best thing with this volume, and the next 2, is the bonus DVD with the first 5 episodes in original ... Read More:

DVD : The Melancoly of Haruhi Suzumiya - Vol. 1 [Special Edition] [2006]
To my mind, The Melancoly of Haruhi Suzumiya is easily the best anime of recent years. Based on the first few books of the Nagaru Tanigawa's hugely popular series of Japanese light novels, the anime tells the story of world-weary Kyon, a Japanese high school student, and of his encounters with the eponymous Suzumiya Haruhi, and the strange collection of Aliens, Time Travellers and ESPers, she (unknowingly) assembles around herself.

If you think you might like intelligent sci-fi, detective fiction and zany comedy served up with a little philosophy, romance and fan-service, then you can't do much better than this.
