You pretty much know that any film featuring both John Candy and Dan Aykroyd is going to generate some laughs, making The Great Outdoors a pretty safe bet for anyone in the mood for a little comedy - and comedy is basically all you should expect here (any film that supplies subtitles for raccoon conversations isn't really trying to express anything meaningful), despite the fact that John Hughes wrote the script. For once, Hughes' involvement does more harm than good. While The Great Outdoors is certainly a good movie, it's not a very good John Hughes movie. Of course, it's hard to follow 80s classics like The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, but Hughes' heart just didn't seem to be in this one. This is best demonstrated by the teenaged ... Read More:

I adore this movie! I first saw it about 17 years ago when I was 15. I was staying in my best friends house and we rented out this movie because we both had a crush on Andrew McCarthy! Anyway we watched it three times in 24 hours!!
I can't tell you why I loved it so much, but I think I could relate to Andie (Molly Ringwald's character) at the time because I liked to be my own person, not a clone. One of the main reasons that I love this movie is DUCKIE! I love him, yes I fancied Andrew McCarthy at that time (I want to stress AT THAT TIME,NOT NOW!) but when I watch this film, it's Duckie I want Andie to be with and who I would have chosen myself! I know that the film originally ended this way (the right way!)but test audiences didn't like ... Read More:

I bought this because of previous reviews. The story is predictable but none the worse for that. Reeves is always good value and his character is a decent enough chap (playing a similar role to that he made his own in 'Point Break'). The swearing means it will not be ok for the family to watch, not under twelves certainly. The soundtrack is really excellent and the quality of the DVD is fairly remarkable too. The football footage is beautiful. Some smiles and a few laughs too. Another one to keep and revisit. 7/10

The Odd Couple (the first one), has to be, in my book, and countless others too, the funniest film ever made. So, naturally, I bought the 2nd one.
Walter Matthau couldn't be anything but funny. He only has to be there to be funny and The Odd Couple 2 is no exception. He is brilliant.
But Jack Lemmon?
And Neil Simon?
Well, lets face it, Jack Lemmon has grown old ungracefully. He has a whole new array of virgin white teeth which makes him look unusually youthful around the lower jaw. This doesn't fit in with the rest of him. He is visibly not at ease making a film about being in one's dotage; maybe he prefers to be remembered as the sprightly Daphne in Some Like It Hot and the fabulously neurotic Felix in The Odd Couple 1.
And Neil ... Read More:

The Whole Nine Yards is a totally underated film, unfortunately the sequel, despite retaining all the original stars, is a ridiculous mess and should never have been made. Everyone overacts and it is only its lack of morality and very strange sense of humour that saves it from being a TOTAL turkey (Bruce Willis telling Amanda Peet that he's gonna stab her in the face is a line I never thought I'd hear in a comedy).
Not worth watching.

It was probably about two years ago now that i first saw the last half of this film on TV and i remember how funny and entertaining i had found it. When i then saw that it was on again i just knew that i had to watch it and see if it still had the same appeal, even though i was a few years older. And i will say that if anything, it was better than the first time i saw it.

It's about a man called Ray Gleason who is a crook trying to go straight, however him and his two buddies decide to do one last robbery, a hoard of coins worth over one million dollars. However, halfway through their plans, Ray's son Timmy turns up unexpectedly and he has other ideas about what to do with the coins.

The film has not only got a very original storyline, but it is also very funny, ... Read More:
