Yes, the Star Wars cash cow is on show again presented nicely so it might win "best of breed". I suppose in a way this is George Lucas's revenge on the public, who pestered him for the original trilogy on dvd and then pestered him some more for the original original versions on dvd. My only surprise is that it doesn't say Limited Edition (yawn)

For many Bond fans, the return of Sean Connery in this "unofficial" Bond entry, was an exciting opportunity to experience the Connery magic and charisma before the earlier pre-Roger Moore years. Released in 1983, the film competed head-to-head against Moore's entry, "Octopussy" which, to some critics of note, one of the better Roger Moore efforts. Obviously, this production had a more engaging cast, an entertaining story, and some good actors: Maude Adams and Lois Jourdan as Bond's nemesis than "Never Say Never Again."

While it's good to have Connery back, looking actually fitter than he did in "Diamond Are Forever" in 1971, and wearing a faultless toupee, the film manages to fall short on a number of levels. Viewers should note, ... Read More:

DVD : Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes IV-VI) [1977]
Nothing polarises people like Star Wars. For many of us, it was a fundamental part of growing up. We watched the films, we fell in love with the universe of Star Wars, we bought the toys. Star Wars is, in many ways, part of our childhood. And being so universally loved makes it difficult to take a step back and review it objectively. Star Wars is either something you love, or don't care about, and there's little middle ground.

So how does one review something that means so much to you dispassionately? With difficulty. Difficult to see, dispassionately this is.

So what are these films? They're not the same way you remember them.

This is classic film-making : the type of film-making that changed the shape of films and ... Read More:

'The Empire Strikes Back', the second of the "old" Star Wars releases, is likely to be the darker of the collection, yet at the same time, the most accomplished in terms events. Their are many well shot scenes that are so cleverly edited, and the early fight scene on the snow planet between the rebels and the empire is superbly shot.

It's only my opinion though, but I've always felt the ending shot of this film is incredibly weak. Not longer after Darth Vader has confessed his relationship with Luke, we're still in alot of tension and the atmosphere is quite mellow, yet in a matter of minutes, all this is turned around so we can have a shot of Luke, Leia, and the droids gazing out of their cruisers window with a big smile on their face, just to make ... Robocop is one of the finest action films of the 1980's.

Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 never live up to expectations and don't have the same dark atmosphere. They are worth owning and watching if you have nothing better to do..

I paid £7 for the box set so I am more than happy.

Robocop - 5 Stars
Robocop 2 - 2.5 Stars
Robocop 3 - 2 Stars

The set deserves 4 stars overall.

I don't get it - they cleaned up the originals for the laserdisc box set back in the early 90s (not the 'enhanced' versions) - why on EARTH did they not use those versions for this DVD release??? Picture quality here is just nasty...

'What's Up Doc?' is a fabulous film, endlessly rewatchable, totally madcap, brilliantly scripted, cast, directed, you name it. A total success.
'Nuts' is highly watchable, if you like Barbra Streisand, has good support from Richard Dreyfuss, and... well, it's all a bit predictable and sentimental.
'Up the Sandbox' is a minor film that's like the curate's egg. I like the idea of the film, and Barbra's performance is unusually understated. But there are too many very long daydream sequences that are really quite tedious and unbalance the film. Not bad though, if you're a fan.
'The Main Event' is a tedious boxing movie starring a heavy-looking Ryan O'Neal and a Barbra desperately trying to move the leaden plot along. Very, very boring and badly done.
It's a ... Read More:

A good value DVD which offers up the two `unofficial' James Bond movies, that is, the two not made by Eon Productions. Both movies have reputations based on received wisdom, dating from the initial critical reaction when the films were first released; however, in both cases, received wisdom is unfortunately wrong.

Released in 1967, Casino Royale started life as a serious Bond film, designed to rival (and cash-in on) the Eon series. When these plans came to nothing, the film was instead touted as a spy spoof, to star Peter Sellers in the Bond role, but due to Sellers' unprofessionalism (leaving before his scenes were finished) and various other production nightmares, the film gradually mutated into the overblown tribute to 1960s' pop culture that we all know, but don't ... I do not think I've ever seen a sequel that surpasses the prequel to such a degree as this film does. The opening quarter of an hour of the film is one of the best ever, that engages the attention of the viewer immediately. Action scenes are poignant and dramatically effective at the same time. I believe that the Lakota were far more sensitively portrayed than they were in 'A Man Called Horse' - when they seemed to do very little than shriek incoherently at each other and everyone else. The scenery and the costumes are great and are very authentic given the detail usually given to most films of this era.

The film begins with Harris returning to America, initially for a year, to visit the Lakota band that enslaved and later adopted him in the 1820's. He finds that his ... Read More:

The 1980 film, in its original release, remains truly outstanding and worthy of Distinction. It is a classic, as recognised by the American Film Registry. There is much beauty in each cinematic shot, and excellent characterisation and acting.

The Limited Edition DVD is out for a 'limited time only'. This DVD contains two discs: the main feature being the original 1980 version -much anticipated, and a 'digitally remastered movie'- in which many areas of the film are digitally remodified, recreated, re-rendered, extended, and even overembellished, all for various reasons - all the details of which have been much commented on elsewhere on the internet.
