Good night Mister Tom my review

I would like to recommend, Goodnight Mister Tom because it's a very emotional story.
When I watched the DVD it was a thoroughly enjoyable and a good range of specialist language.
Based on the World War 2 time.

The charters are Tom, Willie, Zach, Sammy the dog, Mum and mrshartridge. Willie meets a boy called Zach but sadly Zach died because a Germans bomb. Willie's mum died because she drowned her, she was a mental women.

This DVD made you feel that you were there. Mister Tom helps Willie by buying him a book and pen. Willie was getting hit by his mum, for doing absolutely nothing.

My best part of the DVD was when Willie learned to ride a bike.

"Do you think a homosexual elephant has a terrible time of it?" Most of us undoubtedly have asked that question at one time or another, but I doubt if any except Quentin Crisp have asked it with such innocent interest. Crisp was, in his own words, an unregenerate degenerate. He was an English homosexual who saw no reason why he shouldn't be who he was. He was effeminate. He dressed flamboyantly, favoring broad-brimmed fedoras and flowing scarves. He wore make-up and hennaed his carefully coifed hair. He was witty but not malicious. He was willing to take people as they were, and saw no reason why he shouldn't expect the same for himself. Says Sting, who wrote a song about Crisp, "Quentin is a hero of mine, someone I know very well. He is gay, and he was ... Read More:

Based on R.C Sherriff's play 'Journey's end', Aces High is a gripping introduction for anyone wanting an insight into air combat during the First World war. A young Colin Firth is wonderful as the fledgling hero 'Croft' and McDowell proves once again that he is one of the U.K's most underrated actors. Christopher Plummer gives another highly polished performance.

As in Journey's end the idealistic youngster joins the unit commanded by a man well known to him and his family, his sister's fiancee, who is now a decorated and experienced fighter. The youngster's idealism fades however as he realizes that in spite of his friend's success in the war, Greasham is close to breaking point. The movie shows very well how young pilots with insufficient training, ... Read More:

Excellent actors and well conceived storyline elevate this movie from its ordinary TV movie of the month origins.
Set in WW II, Hopkins plays Cheval - an ordinary man, a lawyer, trying to live his life unobtrusively amid the occupation. His life is upturned when he is taken in along with a group of others by the Germans and put in jail, ready to be shot as an example to the resistance. When that time comes, he buys his life, giving all he has to another man who wishes to leave the house and wealth for his mother and sister Therese (Kirsten Scott-Thomas).
3 years later after the war, Hopkins returns to his house, and meets the sister, never letting on who he actually is. The lies threaten to unravel when a man (Derek Jacobi) then appears, announcing ... Read More:

DVD : Escape From Sobibor [1987] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I watched this on the TV back in 1987 and it made a very sizeable impression on me. I then hired the DVD back in 2004 and watched it with my husband who was very much moved himself. We now own this on DVD.

That aside, this is a gripping piece of television drama with a few familiar faces - Alan Arkin, Rutger Hauer, Jack Shepherd, Robert Gwilym all coming together to attempt what was seen as unthinkable - to break out of a Nazi death camp.

The story was not familiar to many at the time it was shown in 1987 and I remember Breakfast TV actually interviewed a couple of the survivors, including Esther Raab. It is edge of the seat stuff as you watch the escape plan unfold and through the story, you find yourself caring for the people involved ... Read More:

Yes,OK, it's a knockabout British comedy about moving house. But it's also, for those with eyes and an affinity for metaphor, a profound meditation on the chain of being, the arc (and circle!) of life from youth to old age, the seven deadly sins and the law of consequence (or karma as they call it some places). Without spoiling it for newcomers, I'll point to at least a few of the master strokes of form and construction that are testimony to the film's genius: the bag lady (with *nowhere* to live) whose appearance frames the action; the fact that the action takes place in a single day (mirroring life progressing from dawn to sunset); the self constructed fantasies that surround the characters and between them persuade us to accept that "all human life is here", and at the ... This last appearance of inspector Morse in a criminal case that (a bit of a spoiler here) that partly involves the good man himself, is both beautiful and terribly depressing, as the good inspector did not survive that case. As the story progresses, we understand that nothing is at it seems, and that there is hardly someone (except for Lewis) who has not been affected by the life and death of the victim Yvonne Harrison. Perhaps, it is not so much a whodunnit than a whydunnit, as the spectator may find that being murdered sometimes happened for a good, or at least a decent reason! Morse is true to himself, with his nostalgic makeup and a thing for quoting poetry, not to mention his irritating (to those who cannot keep up with his brilliant detective mind) way of being far ahead ... Burton at his mean & moody best, he portrays the main character with such a sense of desperation, the final scenes leave us wondering who he in fact really is, a man, or a demon from hell itself, with the power to destroy at will, Brilliant, gripping, a real classic.

DVD : The Naked Civil Servant [1975]
This is the adaptation of the book with the same title, by the late eminent Quentin Crisp. I'm afraid the movie is not as thrilling as the book, mainly because it lacks Quentin's elegant and witty writing, and his dry and ironic humour.
But even so it is a good and interesting (made for tv) movie, that tells the story of the extraordinary and courageous life of Quentin Crisp, especially since he decided to not desguise his homosexuality, using it as a weapon instead of a weakness.
And John Hurt offers us some great acting, in what will surely be one of the roles of his career.
This is a not to be missed for all Quentin Crisp fans, and an invalueable document in the history of gay visibility in 20th century England.
