I was sent to bed when the serie was shown in France in 1967, 10 years old at the time, but I amazingly remembered Kenneth More, Eric Porter and Nyree Dawn Porter faces. My mother was absolutly taken by the show and had no time for a kid.
Just last year, in Oslo, I walked into a news stand and found a very cheap print of the book. I bought it...........and let it rest until this summer on my coffee table. I finally took it while on a 10 days hike in the austrian alps and couldn't let go of the book. Primarly because I realized the Forsyte, although english, were just like my family !! Very chilling, but yet, there are heaps of french Forsytes, have a read at Emile Zoal or Balzac !!
I suddenly had to have the DVD. I finally went ... Read More:

This is one of the most enjoyable series from the 80's - A British sitcom with a small but formidable cast. Judi Dench and Michael Williams create funny and sensitive portraits of people who find dating and mating a bit of a challenge, while Susan Penhaligon and Richard Warwick provide excellent support as the "perfect" couple who bring them together. It has characters you really care about, a fine script and some wonderful acting.

There are four series available and the quality is never strained. It is very much of its time and obviously won't appeal to everyone, but like all the best dramas its themes are timeless, and the very least you can say is that it does what it says on the tin. It is a fine romance, and a fine series.

What an interesting documentary, two people with relatively little financial assistance and zero legal training taken to court by McDonalds over leaflets they handed out. The proceedings have taken the best part of 15 years out of their lives and brought their case to the masses in a way their leaflets never could. Recommended viewing!

This series was made a quarter of a century ago but it has more than stood the test of time. Judi Dench and Michael Williams are superb as the socially awkward couple who bumble along without ever having the courage to admit their feelings to each other, and the writing (by Bob Larbey) is poignant, painful and witty. A couple of the episodes don't really work - the pretentious 'luvvie' Harry character who pops up a couple of times isn't very believable, while Dench's sister and brother-in-law are a bit twee at times. But the scenes where Mike is inexplicably mistaken for Rolf Harris in a restaurant, and where Mike takes a terrified Laura to the dentist, are worthy of a place in anyone's DVD comedy collection.

DVD : Mary Wesley's Harnessing Peacocks [1992]
A charming film adaptation of the novel "Harnessing Peacocks" by popular author Mary Wesley.

Filmed in Cornwall in 1992 this story centres on fiercely independent Hebe Rutter (Serena Scott Thomas) who enjoys a comfortable lifestyle paid for by gourmet cooking for wealthy ladies and providing sexual favours for affluent businessmen, "her peacocks" (hence the title). All this because of a determination to ensure her adolescent son Silas (an impressive debut from Tom Beasley) is given every opportunity in life - something she was denied by the untimely death of her parents and the subsequent miserable existence with her grandparents. Hebe refuses to acknowledge Silas' father - a man barely remembered from a one night liasion 13 years previously. But one ... Read More:
