DVD : Swashbuckler [1976] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
In the scathing but short-lived satire of amoral movie producers, Action!, the first and most important thing uberproducer Peter Dragon teaches his daughter is "No pirate movies." Certainly before Pirates of the Caribbean finally broke the curse, the industry was littered with the sporadic wrecks left by those few foolhardy producers who would try at least once a decade to revive the genre only to end up with costly disasters like the rival 1982 versions of The Pirates of Penzance, Roman Polanski's Pirates or Renny Harlin's Cutthroat Island. 1976's The Scarlet Buccaneer (aka Swashbuckler) is certainly no exception to the rule. It even has a pirate called Polanski in it.

On paper it has everything it needs for an enjoyable romp but on ... Read More:

DVD : Honey West: The Complete Series
This is a spectacular DVD set of 1960s television series Honey West, similar to Rockford Files but with a difference. The show stars Anne Francis as a private investigator who works with a male partner named "Sam" (John Ericson). She runs her late father's Los Angeles detective agency with such gadgets only to be seen in a James Bond movie; tear gas earrings, a radio transmitter disguised as a martini olive or a pendant necklace and many other forms of electronic devices. Honey is not only sexy and glamorous, but also proficient in karate and judo and not afraid to use a firearm to defend her-self. The first episode, "The Swingin' Mrs. Jones" establishes the show's cool vibe and cult appeal in which she goes undercover as a society matron to quash ... Read More:

DVD : Rollercoaster [1977] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

Fabulous classic disaster movie from the 70s starring George Segal.

A clever young man using electronics and technology holds Amusement Parks to ransom by sabotage of their biggest and most exciting rides - namely the 'Rollercoaster'.

This is a truly absorbing and exciting movie full of suspense, and having now watched this half a dozen times over the last thirty years, still manages to hold my attention! May appear a little over-long to some, but the first fifteen minutes are riveting and straight into the action! Timothy Bottoms is superb as the 'young man', and for some reason in this the 'ordinary' folk at the Amusement Parks seem to grab the attention - a style sadly lacking in modern movie-making.
