Jason Reitman should be pleased as punch with his superb directorial debut about a spokesman working for the American tobacco industry. The script simply bursts with wit, rich dialogue and snappy satirical shifts and it is anchored by a fabulous performance from the excellent Aaron Eckhart as Nick Naylor, a disarming spin doctor who defends his amoral employers against the most damning of odds. I hugely enjoyed this film and it is piercingly funny in places, often cutting quite close to the bone. A young high school girl gets pregnant,and decides to have her baby,whom she gives up to adopting parents.Her courage is to be admired and applauded.But the acting in the film is not that good,and the dialogue stilted and forced.The actors portraying her parents are very good in minor roles,especially the stepmother.And the future adoptive father is great,as he slowly realises he does not want to be a father,and backs out of his marriage entirely.

I loved this film. The script is simply amazing, with endless amounts of wit and intelligence. The indy style of the film may annoy some but I think that indy is the next (or current) big thing. No one wants tongue-in-cheeck macho action films nowadays. The subtle (not completely) and gentle way in which young love is portrayed in this film is great. Great soundtrack, all parts well played and above it all a brilliant script.
