I agree with a previous ctitic, this film had most of the ingredients to make a memorable film - except the screenplay. It was fine until a certain point, then went to hell. Don't buy it, rent it if you feel you've got to see it.

At the time of writing, I am the 315th to review this DVD, so here's my twopennyworth. There is no need to relay the story, for if you don't know it by now ...

There is an amazing long opening take in this film. In fact there are a number of several long takes. On a technical level, there are a number of fresh and exciting scenes to ponder, such as Lizzie twirling on the farmhouse swing as the seasons pass around her. Or the window-work of Lizzie's own home as the family settles down to its night-time occupations room by room. Or Lizzie staring in the mirror at the home of Mr Collins as day turns to night. And here Mr D'Arcy arrives and leaves his letter, departing in the half-light. In the commentary that accompanies the DVD, Joe Wright ... Read More:

I think you have to look past the hype and see the film for itself. In that regard, James MacAvoy was as usual superb, and brought his character (Robbie) to life. Saoirse Ronan as the young(est) version of Briony, showed us all of the intensity of a 13-year-old on the cusp of adolescence. Her motivation is clear - she has strong feelings for Robbie, feelings which she cannot express, does not know how to express, but somehow must do; and then she catches her sister and Robbie together, intimately, and it is the resulting bottled-up rage that destroys all three of them.

And what of Keira Knightely? I thought she was convincing. In the first part of the film her dialog is mainly cliches, but that would have been the way her character would have ... Read More:

Never seen this kind of packaging before, it's lovely. All my favourite sweeping period dramas, who can resist Daniel Day Lewis in The Age of Innocence and I still maintain that Cate Blanchett should have got the Oscar for Elizabeth!

If you are looking for Jane Austen's beautiful book translated faithfully to film, this is not the movie for you. But this adaptation `Pride & Prejudice' is wonderfully done. This movie has great casting, good writing and good direction. I did enjoy watching this shorten version of the film even though some subplots do not even exits in this movie. It would be impossible to place all that Jane Austen has going on in her novel into two-hour movie.

One thing the director did do is film everything from the view of Elizabeth Bennet, played by Keira Knightly. And the dance hall scenes and social etiquette were accurate for the time period chosen, 1797. You could see what a middle-upper class family had to go through if they had daughters. I also thought ... Read More:
