DVD : Scarlett [1994] [Dutch Import]

I enjoyed 'Scarlett' a lot, even though it is indeed very different from 'Gone with the Wind'. Mainly because of the actors. I think Timothy Dalton is perfect as Rhett Butler, but the actress playing Scarlett is not quite as good as Vivien Leigh. She does not have her charme and charisma!
The plot is a bit involute, and a bit cliche, but I liked it nonetheless.

I remember when this was first shown on TV and was living in London and it caused a lot of trouble. Not very accurate. Slavery was abolished about 100 years before the source of the Nile was discovered (Dr Livingston I Presume etc). However these people were running around in Africa with chains. The reality was that the slave ships bought the slaves from Arab (Can't remember seeing any in this series)Slave Traders(Who did know their way around Africa) who had traded for them from the tribes they came from. And they met the ships on the coast. Slavery was about MONEY not RACE. People who get rich by the exploitation of other human beings do not care what colour they are - all they care about is how much MONEY they are making out of them.

Stunning story and cast in this not really known about film that somehow fell through the net? Simple story about a mothers love for her daughter and how that love would give her the strength to deal with whatever comes along. Real tearjerking performance from likes of Bette Midler and John Goodman.

I purchased the set (without actually watching it) upon the reccommendation of a friend and the reviews written on this production.
I'm so glad to own this production.
At first I was not sure what to expect and I was not at all impressed with it when I first viewed it. Thinking on the production and viewing it again the second time I have come to apperciate the production and the leading actors do an amazing job as Victoria and Albert.
I especially like how Albert married Victoria even though he was not in love with her as Victoria was with Albert. But he took his marriage vows very seriously and he grew to love Victoria and was faithful to her.
Victoria and Albert were very moral people and they as the first family wanted ... Read More:

DVD : Who Will Love My Children [1983]
This is a film about a mother who discovers she has inoperable cancer and has to find good homes for all her many children. Her husband, though well-meaning, is a hopeless drunkard totally unable to cope or to help much. They live in a house far from town, somewhere in "Darkest America", I think Iowa or Michigan (not sure about that). The story takes one up and down, through all sorts of trauma and eventually comes up with as happy an ending as possible under the trying circumstances. The last ten minutes keep you guessing as it seems one child (quite normal save for mild epilepsy) looks like being abandoned alone in a state orphanage...this is a 5-star tearjerker and a half! Great film though and not schmaltzy at all, really, bearing in mind the subject ... Read More:

DVD : Star Trek: The Original Series - Season Three [1969] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
The final instalment of the original series unfortunately doesn't quite keep up the superb standard of storytelling of series one and two. Creator Gene Roddenberry no longer worked as the series' script editor, and as a result the quality of the episodes dropped. It's not all doom and gloom, there are still a number of great episodes: 'For The World Is Hollow...', 'The Tholian Web' and 'The Paradise Syndrome' are all up to the high standard of the previous series's, and there are more good 'uns. Unfortunately, there are more duff episodes than before: 'That Which Survives', 'Whom Gods Destroy', and 'Spock's Brain' are bad, 'The Way To Eden' is awful! On the whole, though, if you ignore these, the series is enjoyable and fun, and still retains the sense of ... Read More:
