The second series of Saxondale is even better than the first. Episode 1 is realy a summation of the 1st series character of Tommy Saxondale from there on his vista expands and takes in more characters in a broader scope of situations and the comedy is all the better for it.

It looks like the BBC will not take a 3rd series and so MacClennan and Coogan's scripts have everything thrown into them.

Commision editors at the BBC seem to have lost their marbles; while some idiot in the drama department writes a cheque for the diabolical Bonekickers another puts the book away in the comedy department.

Saxondale, it seems will go the way of Hyperdrive - loveable and funny characters consigned to the dustbin marked ... Read More:

I love Sci-fi comedy. I love Nick Frost. In fact, I love most of the cast in Hyperdrive when they've done other projects. They are clearly talented comic actors. Unfortunately, Hyperdrive is not as entertaining as other comedy shows and more importantly other sci-fi comedy shows (yes, I mean Red Dwarf). I tried to watch this with an open mind, but it was difficult not to compare it to Red Dwarf and Hitchikers. They both set the mark for Sci-fi comedy, as Star Trek and Star Wars set the mark for Sci-Fi. I laughed at the jokes in Hyperdrive, I watched the repeats, I even bought the DVD, but you can't escape the feeling that it's trying to do something Red Dwarf and Hitchikers did a lot better a long time before! If you're a geek like me, you'll ... Read More:

I came across this series on Amazon one day when I was bored looking at other things that Dylan Moran was in. After a new found love for his stand ups and Black Books, I thought I would give this a go since the price here is so reasonable for a two series set.

I am happy to say that I have loved every bit of it. While Black Books and his stand up's are laugh out loud, this doesn't tend to be. But funny in a way that makes you keep watching it.

There are quite a few people in this which you now see in bigger parts or newer things. A couple of examples are Peter Serofinawitz (not sure of spelling) and the bloke who played the loud common geezer type role in Hustle, and I think has a big part in a new comedy.

Loch Ness- no guessing what its about!
And yet, this is another film that I keep re-watching- there is a delightful sense of tongue in cheek about this, the story is of the classic myth- the ancient sea creature alive in Loch Ness- and yet it has an innocent charm that you just wish could be true.
I like this sort of film. Think lots of us do, if we could just be more truthful. A 4 star film- not quite excellent, but very good al;l the same.

There's little to commend this film. It was never going to be easy to match the original so it appears that the producer (Christopher Figg) hasn't bothered. Excellent locations and the dog's a star but the remainder of the production was disappointingly lazy, they couldn't even be get the right breed of dog.

Children will love this film, I don't know why this one has had no publicity because it's a really good family movie with lots of familiar voices and a great mix of live action and animation I have bought it for my children who are 6 and 4 for christmas , I sneaked a watch of it whilst they were at school and I know they will love it as much as I did, it's a bargain!

Faithfully based on Mary Norton's books from the 50's, my son (9) and daughter (11) loved the two BBC 'borrowers' series, first screened in 1993 and 1994 - this twin DVD has both series (6 separate half hour episodes per season, 12 in all). Picture quality is quite good (better than the older BBC Narnia sets). If you don't want to buy, the DVDs are ideal for renting.

My kids really enjoyed the 1997 film version, but to be honest this BBC series is far darker, being played straight with no slapstick. Despite the Borrower's amusing antics and the witty script, it's got many quite tense moments and is all the better for it. The special effects in The Borrowers are actually very good - certainly more than adequate - although a lot of the ... Read More:

Faithfully based on Mary Norton's books from the 50's, my son (9) and daughter (11) loved the two BBC 'borrowers' series, first screened in 1993 with season two in 1994 - this DVD has series one only (6 separate half hour episodes). Check out the twin DVD set though as this has both Borrowers series one and two on 2 DVD s (12 episodes in all), as often that is a bit cheaper than buying the two series as separate single DVD sets. The present price (£14) is a bit expensive for a single DVD (at the moment the entire 4 DVD BBC Narnia set is the same price). If you can't decide whether to buy, try renting. Picture quality is quite good (better than than the slightly older BBC Narnia sets).
