I have just finished watching this set. I had seen some early episodes originally but watched all again. It is almost a bit "Lost on Mars" as the early series now do seem dated or rather perfectly portraying that time - the early 1990s. I found myself watching the clothes of DCI Tennison and of course the ageing of her in her character with all the trials and tribulations faced by a woman in the police force and in her personal life. She is a demanding , admirable yet imperfect character and it is heart wrenching to see the last episode when retirement beckons. Absolutely fantastic performance by Helen Mirren and of course the rest who make their characters just so believable!

I will try not to be too negative.
I found it painful to watch this movie , I mad ethe incredible mistake of reading the book 2 years before I saw the movie and I was slighty worried about the cast but my cocerns turned into nightmares as the caracterisation was totally woeful , john Hurt can be saved with a mildly credible accent and some decent acting.

Kefallonia is a beatifil Island with glorious sunsets and multiple colours to make any cinematographis enterprise shine but the director ( whoever he/ she was ) missed every single oportinity.
The sexual tension between the main actors is non existant and the plot has been "sexed-up" to make suitable to American audiences.

Writing a play is a tiresome burden when you don't have the faintest idea what it is going to be about but you need to hand it over real soon. Fortunately, Will Shakespeare finds his muse and the authors of the screenplay also had at least a brief encounter with theirs.
Basically a romantic comedy SIL offers much more that the standard "boy meets girl, boy loses girl" scenario - they present it in a fantastically well rendered setting taking as much as they could from the Swan of the Avon.
A perfect way to spend an afternoon - you get your share of romance, adventure, and literary history (the latter should not be taken at face value, however). Do you need more?

A clever title and with results a clever story.

This is no doubt a lovely version of Queen Victoria's life after Albert's death and the government pressure: as praised by many previous reviews.

The story may suggest infidelity, though I see a beautiful friendship, respect and above all loyalty. There is much to gain aside public's love of scandals. There is also Class division, identity, pride, honesty and power. A battle between the mind and heart of a powerful woman, who is struggling with courage and consequences.
Billy Conelly was truly amazing, performing as Mr Brown a close member to the royal family.

Stories have been passed down to me that the Queen actually resented royalty insisting this had killed ... Read More:

Never seen this kind of packaging before, it's lovely. All my favourite sweeping period dramas, who can resist Daniel Day Lewis in The Age of Innocence and I still maintain that Cate Blanchett should have got the Oscar for Elizabeth!

If you know the Storyteller series it's probably the famous nine programmes made with John Hurt as the tale-teller. There is no way to adequately describe the brilliance of the films and special effects .... save to say these are definitely NOT bedevilled with CGI but are based upon the superb Henson creature workshop and advanced puppetry and animatronics.

The second DVD of Greek myths featuring Michael Gambon (and the shaggy dog) is no less excellent - but there are only 4 stories and absolutely no extras. Surely there was room for some behind-the-scenes films about the Creature Workshop? This is a totally cheapskate and unforgivable oversight - hence the loss of a star.

But all 13 films are beyond criticism and if you are reading this ... Read More:

It was meant to be an entertaining evening with family and friends. A good meal and a film. As it turned out, part of the group fell asleep and the rest wanted to bailout but were too polite to suggest it. It is slow, neurotic, and ultimately pointless.
