DVD : Santa Claus Is Coming To Town [1970]

Having watched this program every Christmas growing up in Canada, I love Santa Claus is Coming to Town for sentimental reasons, but recommend it without hesitation for anyone whether they've watched it before or not.

I plan to share this wonderful Christmas film with my 3 year old daughter and have no doubt she will love it as much as I do. For me, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Santa Claus is Coming to Town!!!

DVD : Thundercats : Series 1 Volume 2 (6 Disc Box Set)
I love the thundercats - the series 1 boxsets were quite possibly the best 21st birthday pressies I could have ever got! I can't wait to get my hands on the 2nd series!

but does anyone else think it's weird that the Trials don't follow on after each other? One miute Lion-O is off in the wilderness doing the trails, and then he's back fighting a rock giant or whatever! That's my only qualm with this boxset, that the continuity is lacking slightly

having said that, if you're playing th Thunder-cats drinking game, you don't really care right?.... A shot everytime they say "HO!" and you're laughing!!

3.Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer / Santa Claus Is Coming To Town / Frosty The Snowman starring: Jimmy Durente, Greer Garson, The Vienna Boys' Choir, Billy De Wolfe, Jackie Vernon

DVD : The Hobbit [1978] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This video is a good adaptiation of J. R. R. Tolkien's classic children's novel. There are many positive things to it. Yet there are also some negative aspects to it, because, after all, it is a human production.
The positive is it introduces the story to an audience that might not pick up a book, or people who have never heard of Tolkien (imagine that!). I can honestly say this movie is responsible for getting me into Tolkien. We had Disney, and I watched this and the sequel (Return of the King), although I remembered this the most. When I saw the book at a flea market back when I was 12 or 13, I bought it (I am now 20). Had it not been for this movie, I might have passed that book bye. Therefore, I'm heavily indebted to this movie, because ... Read More:

DVD : The Return of the King [1980] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I cannot believe the sheer number of negative reviews for this movie. Granted, THE HOBBIT was a more successful film. The reason is because these movies are for children, and written as such. THE HOBBIT does well in this situation because it is for children. THE RETURN OF THE KING not so much. The animation style is the same as THE HOBBIT. Gollum is good. The best part of this particular film is the sequence between Eowyn and the Witch-King of Angmar. That is well done. The Mouth of Sauron is also in there*. Orodruin is done well too.
One thing I don't like about both films is current packaging. I bought them before they turned over, and each is well represented with original art from the film. These new covers, however, go totally away from ... Read More:

DVD : The Last Unicorn [1982]
I hadn't watched this film for 20 years, but it must have left a big impression on me when I was seven, because I still found myself remembering the songs and completing some of the characters' lines. On the surface it's a straightforward fable about a unicorn who realises she is the last of her kind and embarks on a quest to find out what happened to the others, along the way teaming up with the inept wizard Schmendrick and a histrionic outlaw named Molly. Underneath it has a rueful, melancholy, slightly unsettling darker edge that occasionally emerges in throwaway lines of dialogue and can catch you off balance.

The animation looks great for the pre-digital era. The colours are still bright and the film doesn't seem to have aged at all. The ... Read More:
