I didn't really have high hopes for this film but I watched it anyway. I couldn't believe at the amount of detail that was skipped through. In the book Anne loves french things, not a sign of it in the film. The end is rushed through with the focus on Anne and very little on Mary. There is nothing about Mary's love's except for the king, Mary is just skimmed over. For a film called 'The Other Boleyn Girl' she doesn't have as much part in the film as she should have.

It's difficult to imagine any dramatisation of 'Bleak House' being better done. The cast is uniformly excellent and the adaptation successfully captures the 'page-turner' quality of the book. Not to be missed.

I thought these episodes were better than most of series 1 and 2, generally more interesting. Exception: The rock star child kidnap episode was truly dreadful.
Rupert Penry-Jones as Adam Carter is ; in my opinion, better than Mat MacFadayen ever was.

After watching the first series, I thought I was prepared for the 2nd. With the cliff-hanger last episode of the first series, I was glad I had already bought the second. But things become more complicated in personal lives, "spy" lives, and just plain spying. It started very strongly and promised to be the equal or better than the first series. Episode 5 is by far the best episode of any series I have ever seen. I was literally on the edge of my seat for all 59 minutes. In some ways it isn't fair to compare the rest of the series after that mind blowing episode. But after that, some of the episodes just did not have the quality of the original series. The stories were not quite as tight and the edgy feel, not there. Possibly new writers were not as familiar with ... Read More:

This type of show does not come along often enough. Well written, superbly acted, fast paced, compelling and thought provoking. You are hooked after the first 5 minutes. It was late and my husband and I made the mistake of thinking we would only watch about 20 minutes of an episode. We were riveted to our chairs for the entire hour. I'm not even sure we blinked. To those having trouble hearing it, on the "Desktop" at the beginning, use your up, down, left or right remote keys and navigate over to the phone and hit Play. It will give you an option of stereo (2) or monaural (I think, the computer voice is hard to understand) (5). We found it easier to understand on (2) stereo. Then pick the episode you want to watch. Bottom line: This is a great show. Don't miss it!

I am surprised that only one reviewer briefly mentioned the backing soundtrack. It is over-bearing and jars the viewing of the excellent acting. It never ceases to amaze me how superb acting is drowned in a morass of noise in this production. Why do they do it? It might just be me but I could not watch this for more than 20 minutes at a time as I got so annoyed by the less than subtle background noises and had to go to do something else. It seemed so incongruous to have a soundtrack blasting out and more suitable to a cheap adventure show than to this Victorian classic. Does every show have to have these ridiculous noises that presumably are to show you where the dramatic bits are? Just some advice to the sound effects people - I do not need your assistance, I can recognise the ... Read More:

The Other Boleyn Girl is a historical novel written by British author Philippa Gregory, based on the life of 16th-century aristocrat Mary Boleyn, sister of Queen Anne Boleyn. It was a phenomenal success. I still remember when I bought the book "The Other Boleyn Girl" at a bookshop at Angel in LDN. I was hooked from page one. That lasted to the very last page. I honestly can not say that about the movie.

My disappointment does not result from historic side of thing as I am not expecting a movie (or a novel) to be historical accurate. However, this movie does not really catch the essence of the story told by Philippa Gregory, is not "round" and never really graps one. There are huge gaps in the story told and only if one really knows one's history ... Read More:

After wondering if the difference between a decently upscaled dvd and the blu-ray would be significant enough to double-dip, I took the plunge. Having just watched Bleak House on blu-ray and after doing a comparison with the standard dvd I can tell you now that the difference is staggering. Details on things such as food and clothing are clearly defined, whereas on the dvd they appear to be a bit of a blurry mess.
Some dvd's I have are so well produced that the image quality on the blu-ray version is, honestly, only a minor upgrade. In the case of Bleak House, however, I will repeat that the increase in definition is incredible. All that love this series should immediately sell their dvd's and purchase the blu-ray. I guarantee you will be amazed at the difference.

This adaption I watched on television and remained avidly attentive to my silver screen. Dickens has a knack of reeling you in, getting to know and understand each character, and even feeling for them, including the bad guys, after all, it's nothing personal.
This adaption allows us to see the lives of different people from different backgrounds interacting and crossing over with each other, needing strengths from some and strengthening others.
The leading lady is strong, independent, determined and above all kind, yet is the perfect lady in her time. She is loved and respected by many, yet underneath it all, there is a meekness and insecurity about her which is within us all. Yet her conviction outweighs such.
I will not spoil the plot for you, but will encourage ... Read More:
