Shrek 2 was one of the most anticipated and well received animated sequels in recent years and broke many records, and is easy to see why with fun characters, daft humour and a very strong likability factor. This is one of my favourite horse films, I absolutely adore it and you will too. The animation is perfect and for once the horses don't talk. Have you ever noticed but most animals seem to talk or sing in animated films but not this one. You can still tell what the horses were feeling or saying. Spirit has eyebrows so you can tell what mood he was in. You could even guess what he was saying when he neighed e.g. when Spirit is captured his mother comes down to rescue him but Spirit neighs. It sounded more like a roar but I could almost imagine what he was saying. 'NO! STOP! What is the story - Spirit is a wild young mustang but when he is captured his life is turned upside down. I was hugely looking forward to watching these two so finally got them using the Amazon Rental thingy. People had been going on about how they weren't just for kids and what great films they were. Well, I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. They were both pretty dull. Thin plots, poor songs and musical numbers (apart from the last number in Shrek 2), annoying characters (in a more realistic film someone would have shot the Donkey ten minutes in). Maybe I'm just an old grouch, but I fell asleep twice during the second one and the first wasn't much better.

I loved the orignal Shrek so much that this film was a must buy. However, while it is still quite fun it simply cannot live up to its predecessor. The story seems to be a rehash of the first film with Shrek's struggle for acceptance, the switch from ogre to human and donkey's antics. The multitude of fairy-tale characters in the first film seem a bit dull in this one. The Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming are wonderful but many of the other characters don't make the grade. The film is largely saved by Antonio Banderras' Puss in Boots. Overall it's quite nice and worth a watch, but does seem like just another sequel.

These movies are great like most animated movies that dreamworks produce. It is great for the kids but has an underlying adult humour which is great. This means that i can watch it and laugh at the same time my son watches it. Very funny excellent characters. The second movie follows on really well and is just as entertaining as the first. If you have kids i would buy it.
