V the mini series and it's sequel V the final battle are great SF. Tough the special effects are not up to today's standard, this is more than compensated for by the interesting storyline (a parable about the naziregime) and protagonists who are real people with real faults and doubts. Some become collaborators, some become heroes against their will, but there are no black and white characters all good or all bad, except for Diana (a Dr.Mengele-like character only with real power, not a follower like Mengele was).
Together these two form an epic story of real interest.
Unfortunately the formula was milked into a television series (V The complete series) wich has deteriorated to mediocre or less. The stories have become childish, ... Read More:

If you read my review for the original Short Circuit, you'll note my memories for what is, a wonderful film. The story with this? Yet another ex-rental buy from Blockbuster! My mum knew just how much I loved the first, and once she saw this sequel in the pile of old videos, I was home to a welcome suprise.. and a dohnut!
Did this sequel live up to the first? In many ways, yes, and in a few others... no. But firstly, whats Johnny 5 up to? Well, after his escape at the end of the first film, he makes his way into the city via an obviously large package, to his original creators. The group bond, and we see J-5's rather humerous encounters as he makes his way through the different aspects of city life - much different to his quiet life hide-out in ... Read More:

series is all-comprehensive about security and emergency services in New York City, New York Police Department (precinct 55), Fire Department of New York and hospital. All together to deal with emergencies, crises and other traumatic events as fast as possible and in the most effective way as possible. The rhythm of the series, the density of action, the themes and events are perfect to create and make us live in the tension of that life. But the series is a lot more interesting than that. It explores the personalities and the relations of the various actors of these services and the intricate architecture of private life, family life, children, even cultural life and entertainments is so rich and complex that we really let ourselves slide into the story and we ... Yet again the evil associated with having a green face is here in DVD format. I watched most of this series on TV when it was on and the change that Dr David Bananner goes through when he's got his dander up is truly terrifying if you are familiar with green face theory. The hulk is a visual metaphor for the symbology of the green faced baddy.

My hero in this series was the Mr Magee, not Magoo, who was always trying to expose Dr David's secret evil green face. The series was good and this box set may offer value for money, but do not forget, green faced evil is subconciously worming it's way though your eyes and ears into sleeping acceptence in your soul.

Other green faced evil can be found in the suspicious death of Rod Hull and Emu. Grotbags ... Read More:

An excellent sci-fi series with real content, applicable to today's world. Issues of racism come to the fore and dealt with in depth, therefore presenting a challenge to young and old alike. Much humour. Leaving us with a cliff hanger was decidedly unfair but that just shows how much we loved watching this as a family living in France with two adolescents.

DVD : The Tomb of Ligeia/An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe [1970] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
"tomb of ligeia" is the second of two films that roger corman and vincent price made together in england after "masque of the red death."
"tomb of ligeia" is more involved than previous corman films; there are more location sequences and the plot is rather complicated to understand. but there are good scenes and vincent price is as reliable as ever. a good effort.
"an evening with edgar allan poe" is a wasted opportunuity.
the stories chosen aren't the best by a long way. "the sphinx" is a waste of time; a disappointing ending and the story doesn't make sense. "the tell-tale heart" is better but the film set is all wrong. it should have a gothic look to it but instead looks more like a western. "the cask of amontillado" is too restricted. "the pit and ... DVD : Steel
Even considering that this film was based on one of DC's lesser well known 'heroes', it can't do anything to escape the curse of the 'comic to screen' movies, that has beset such previous turkey's as 'Captain America', 'The Flash' and let's not even talk about 'Justice League of America'.

The acting....well, maybe it is better if basketball players stick to only making films where they are working opposite animated talking animals and Bill Murray.

I couldn't tell if the script was bad, or if it was just delivered poorly...it was a bit of a toss up, and sadly, for the purists, the origins of Steel are not exactly what they might expect had they read 'The Return of Superman' (where the character first appeared in the comics)...but then again, that could ...
