Gondry has this wizardly combination of cool ideas and a real feeling for the music he's illuminating. Highlights for me are Beck's Deadweight - which is full of haunting and humerous images of dislocation - and Chemical Bros' Star Guitar - which perfectly maps the tune onto a hypnotic view of industrial suburbs from the window of a train.

When I play it on my PC, the DVD freezes after I select an option from the menu where he's playing drums (though you can get round this) - hence four stars instead of five.

I've talked to friends who have berated music videos as being a distraction from the essence of music-making, ie the sound. Anyone with this opinion need only watch the work of Chris Cunningham to see the justification for video.

Whatever the sound, this DVD is a fascinating example of how images can enhance sound, and give a multi-dimensional meaning to the art of music.

Regardless of your taste in music, you can't fail to be moved by this work.

Essential viewing for any student of multi-media.

Enhance your life, watch this DVD!

Having watched the Gondry and Jonze DVD's back to back, I found that the latter fell a long way short of the mark.

The Gondry DVD is outstanding and had everything I was expecting, in particular his thoughts and the processes he goes into concerning his work. This I found particularly engaging as it gives you a real insight as to what makes him tick, and therefore a gives you a greater appreciation for his work.

This gave me great hope for the Jonze DVD, as it's rare to find interviews with Jonze talking about his work and his influences. What better place for him to give an exclusive in-depth interview, than on a DVD, on label HE co-founded.

Once again he fails to deliver, and would rather have other people "bigging him ... Read More:

Although this DVD is lacking in extras (there aren't any), the sheer quality and diversity of Green Day videos more than makes up for it!

From the early 'Dookie'-era to the pre-'American Idiot' vids of 'Warning', this collection showcases a dozen image changes for the band - Billie Joe undergoing a transformation from nose-pierced bratty teenager delivering angst-ridden punk anthems to subdued, vulnerable balladeer in videos like 'Good Riddance' and 'Redundant'.

Highlights include 'Longview', a low budget video of the band with all their blemishes, shot in Billie Joe's front room, where he happily hacks away at his sofa, and the elegantly stylish 'Hitchin' A Ride', whilst the sports-homage 'Nice Guys Finish Last', the cartoonish 'Basket ... Read More:

Blair Young has managed to capture the essence of the band that for me and thousands of Bowlie kids worldwide throug this lovely compilation of hard-to-find promos and interviews. Apparently there are still hours and hours of unused footage- enough to make another DVD!!

Covering the band's early genesis on Tigermilk through to the Storytelling albums including the loss of Isobel Campbell and Stuart David and the recruitment of Sarah Martin, Mick Cooke and Bob Kildea into the ranks, this mouthwatering package wraps up the story of the band's years on the Jeepster label and is a nice lead-in to the current Dear Catastrophe Waitress album, the band's most successful yet.

This DVD is the first music DVD to utilise the power of the format- crammed with ... Read More:

The director series is interesting. You're supposed to watch stuff on the back of a director...most of which you haven't even heard of. Sure the name Spike Jonze rings a bell but i really hadnt heard too much about these guys apart from the fact that they're directors.

So I had a look at all the directors in the series took the pluge and bought the box set. A good call if i say so myself. The Chris Cunningham one is by far the shortest (and the best in my opinion)and i would have felt ripped off if i had just bought it alone. The other 2 (Spike Jonze and Michael Gondry) are also really fun to watch.

Between them all there's a great blend of music videos, commercials and short film stuff. Some of the commenteries are good also. But ... Read More:
