Having bought this from Amazon in March, I have only just got round to watching the final episode, and all I can say is - brilliant! I won't go into detail as some of the other reviwers have said some of what I would like to say, top notch cast and performances and brilliant period detail. I would just like to add that I enjoyed Series 4 as much as the first 3 series, I state that as one or two reviews say it isn't as good, but we must agree to differ. I came into this series as a totally new experience and I feel myself lucky that I did, as it it one of the most enjoyable dramas I have seen.

If you want to know what this series is like, read the reviews for season I. Nothing much has changed - the exteriors are still as relentlessly miserable and overcast, the buildings and streets still as grubby, and the three-wall studio sets are still as unrealistic and blatantly theatrical. And Stephanie Turner and a couple of the other actors still turn in good performances, and that's what makes it watchable and credible. And it gives you an idea of what the police used to do all those years ago. If they made a series like this again these days, the police would be arresting and DNA sampling children for playing conkers.

DVD : Flambards - The Complete Collection [1979]
An excellent yarn that manages well to dramatise the first three books in the 'Flambards' series. The fourth book is not covered (as this contradicts the depth and strength of the characters already built up in the first three books, this no bad thing) so the the series summarises a complex and sometimes cold story, reflecting the social situation and the change in society's structure of the time.
