I made the mistake of actually buying this dvd. Whilst the beginning was good, there was an expectation of something drastic happening in the storyline and it didnt. I think M Night is losing the plot! Sixth Sense was fantastic, however this film kept you engrossed up to a certain point, then it ended to my sheer disapointment. You would expect something to happen in a film called The Happening or even for the lead role to do something a bit more than stare into space for 70% of the film! Massive dissapointment and waste of money. Just watch it on telly when it comes out, but dont waste your good money on this dvd when there are many better films out there!

When this was recently broadcast on British TV, I watched it, on my Widescreen TV & played back the 4.3 version that I had recorded some years ago, from/on, SKY movies on my 4.3 TV. In doing so I noticed that there was NO additional side footage, which meant that in order to upscale a 4 x 3 to 16 X 9 widescreen, the TV broadcaster had to crop 25% of the top & or bottom of the comparative 16 X 12 image. NB. the 3 in 4 X 3 is equal to, image length/4 - 25% therego since the broadcast image length = 16 then its (4 X 3) height/depth, = 12 not 9 which is = to 12 - 25%.

I'm not sure what to make of the director... I loved the Sixth Sense and it seems that everything he has made since has struggled to live up to that benchmark. Knowing this, I tried to approach the film with an open mind.

This is another "good" faery tale from him, but no sensation. There are moments when the acting slips from the tongue-in-cheek to simply poor, and the plot/pacing would have been more suited to a TV series. However, if you approach without preconceptions, you may find yourself enjoying it's slow-burning oddness - though having paid a shade under £20, I have been left underwhelmed.

It should have been better. Bruce has played some great characters throughout his career but in this he was totally devoid of personality or charm. I really didnt care if he lived or died. His family were all really boring as well.I know he is supposed to be feeling empty and bored with life but jeeezz it makes boring TV. The tone of most of the movie is really grim and miserable.

Samuel L Jackson aka Mr Glass saves this film from being a complete failure. his story is quite interesting and there is a good twist at the end.

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being good and 1 being utter s***e I give The Village a score of minus 6.
DO NOT WASTE TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS FILM!!!!!! I've made that mistake already so you don't have to.

The plot is wafer thin, you'll see the so called twist long before the end. By the time you've guessed what is going on stop the film and eject it because at this point you'll only be 5 minutes into the film and you can watch something else instead.

The idea behind this movie was excellent, and for the first 15 minutes I thought this would be a great movie. However, the film actually gets boring. There's no real reason given for the problems and a very, very strange sub-plot between the two main actors, for which you can only think 'so what'.

Real shame, was looking forward to this, but a huge disappointment and not worth buying.

I personally find Signs to be Shyamalan's best film - I am in a position to judge, having watched every single blinkin one of them in film studies.

Signs focuses on how an alien invasion affects one family and one family alone. It also explores faith (and lack of it) in a way that can be interesting even to those who are completely and utterly unconvinced by religion.

Shyamalan's success in this film revolves around what you don't see, rather than what you do see. People fear the unknown more than they fear something which is standing in front of them, and that applies to the audience too.

I must say, after having watched it for the first time in about 5 years, it has fast become one of my favourite films and I am just ... Read More:

This has got to be the worst film I've ever seen ...Its more like a comedy and a poor one at that. Very odd setting for a film, strange unbelievable characters and very odd "grass" monsters ...Just Daft
It was that bad I actually threw the DVD away after I'd watched it!!
