It's Pathfinder! It's got Karl Urban in a loin cloth! It's full of scary massive Vikings! It's... kinda okay. There's some great action and fighting complete with lovely graphic CGI blood splatters and the panoramic scenery of the New World is beautifully shot. BUT the movie itself is just lacking something to me. Personally, I think its pace is too fast and bar a cheesy destiny and a hasty intro to Karl's romantic interest VS tiresome rival, it doesn't really deliver much in terms of story or character development that we haven't already seen before. Sometimes you can get away with that in action movies, but this world offered interesting insights to both cultures and didn't ruddy do anything with them. Which is a pity. So the ... Read More:

Well where do I start? This film is absoulety stunning, whether your talking about the scenery, acting, atmosphere... its just amazing.

It's a classic. When in doubt of a choice of music dvd to play I'd go for this - it goes down well every time if having a party (note it's rated a 15)or just on your own. Waltz Away Dreaming is an additional song - it was on the cassette version but not the CD. See a young Kate Beckinsdale dressed up as goat !?! What ever happened to Toby Bourke?

Agreed - on paper, this film should have been sooooo much better, and the fact that it isn't is solely the fault of the director. Everything that makes a film worthwhile, character and plot for instance, were excised to accommodate extra blood-letting and ludicrous action sequences. If it had been called something on the lines 'Conan the this-or-other' it might have made more sense, and been marketed as high fantasy rather than history, but it wasn't. And because the audience expects to see a reasonably acurate representation of 'real' people - it is deeply disappointing. The real tragedy being that any chance of a good remake of the original story is now out of the window!
