This five early films show Bava developing from B&W - which he does in a really eerie way - to his first colour projects. There are some fine chills in these movies, which include a great turn from Boris Karloff.

These are psychologically intense in many places and all are well worth seeing. This is a fantastic set.

Joyfully ridiculous from end to end - bursting with extravagent sets, daft costumes, impressive photography and typical "international" dubbing, this is utterly irresistible! John Philip Law, Michel Piccoli before he got all serious, the villain from "Thunderball", Terry-Thomas, E-Type Jags, Morricone - what's not to like? Throw away that copy of the misbegotten Halle Berry "Catwoman" and get the real thing!

I've tried numerous times to add more product details to the above now OOP (out of print) German release, but Amazon UK appear to have no option on adding subtitle info on the damn listing.
So here goes, this amazing and now rare release contains full English subtitles for the main feature, with the option of watching it in it's original release Italian audio, or even German should you prefer.

Personally, this dvd is worth the price just for the deleted 'I Vampiri' footage as contained the its rare trailer included here. As for the bonus Mario Bava film trailers in the extras...

DVD : Planet of the Vampires [1965] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Mario Bava's sci-fi flick is about a crew of a space ship that receives a distress call from colleagues trapped on a strange planet. The gravitational pull of the planet plunges the ship to the surface, and it then becomes clear that some kind of life force is active on the planet..
Due to the talent and genious of Bava, a low budget film has never looked so good. The direction is superb and just full of atmosphere and great imagination. There's a constant eerie feel, a really great visual look with amazing colours and there's also very effective suspense throughout.
My personal fave Bava films are "Bay of blood" and "Kill baby kill" but this is very good and recommended to all Bava fans.

DVD : The Whip and the Body [1965] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
One of Christopher Lee's darker films -- and Mario Bava's more gothic ones -- is "The Whip and the Body," a sort of ghostly-mystery with a perverse twist. It suffers from a slack midsection, but it's still loaded with wonderful direction and tons of atmosphere.

Kurt (Christopher Lee) has just returned after years in disgraced exile, and immediately grates on his sickly father and mild brother Christian (Tony Kendall). Also it turns out that Kurt's ex-girlfriend Nevenka (Daliah Lavi) has married Kurt, but she can't deny her feelings after a Kurt whips and seduces her.

Then Kurt is found dead. Everyone -- from Christian to the servants -- has a reason to want Kurt dead, but no one knows who did it. And Nevenka is acting strangely, ... Read More:
