This film was exciting when I saw it in 1956 in Holland, and it is just as exciting now. How can one miss with the superb talent of Michael Redgrave, the stirring music of Eric Coates, and a gripping yarn that happens to be true? Much of the fascination of this film stems from its depiction of Barnes Wallis's process of planning and perfecting the bouncing bomb, and persuading Whitehall to go along with his eccentric idea. Equally interesting are the various makeshift devices, such as the range-finding lights and the home-made bombsight.

"The Dam Busters" tells the story of ingenuity and courage during wartime. In the wrong hands, such a topic might be heavy handed, but one of the things that British filmmakers of the 1950s did ... Read More:

Science Fiction films Prior to Star Wars looked different.

The future had massive computers with big flashing lights on them. People wore futuristic jumpsuits and pumps.

Step in Logan's Run one of the finest films ever. The costumes and acting are pretty cheesy. The robots, special effects are terrible and some of the models to show the sprawling city are what you would expect from an after school model club.

Who cares the story is fantastic (read the book also it's a classic and far more in depth)
And everything about the films sets off perfectly against everything else.

I guess first time watchers who like films with CGI and massive budgets may struggle to see what us dudes who watched it over 20 ... Read More:

These are three of the best War film ever.
The Dambusters. I realy bought this set for this film, the true story of Barns Wallace and the famous raid on German Dams in WW2.
The Cruel Sea. The story of the Men who crewed A destroyer in early WW2.
The Colditz Story. Tales from the famous WW2 prison camp.

These are great films. even in black and white.

An early film by the director of Logan's Run and Around the World in 60 Days, this one's main strength is its plot, which spins a fairly gripping early variation on the are-they aren't-they mad scenario which proved such a fruitful ground for British suspense films of the next decade. Those familiar with Taste of Fear (1961) Paranoiac (1963), etc will know how it goes: an isolated victim in peril from immediate family; lingering doubts of the identity of those closest to her; suggestions of beckoning insanity, overtones of incestuousness, obligatory last minute revelations, and so on.

At the heart of the film is heiress Kimberley Prescott (Anne Baxter), startled to be confronted by Williams (Richard Todd), purporting to be her late brother Ward, a man favoured with ... Read More:

Although the special effects are not very good by modern day standards, there is a unique atmosphere in this DVD which to me echoes the spirit of the original book. Very worth while watching, if you can forgive the effects. For some reason, the astronauts take off from Earth in a moon lander type vehicle! The music is also haunting in places and matches the film well. The picture itself is not very sharp unfortunately maybe because I am watching it on a PAL tv. Overall, I think it still deserves five stars.
Consists of two double sided disks. The sound track is mono.

I thought this film might have some promise from the description and comment. At the end of the end of the film and the desperately poor plot, I cannot believe I had watched it right through!!!! As a Sci Fi type film, it had little to capture the imagination, and when the end suddenly happened, I was shocked as i thought there might be so much more to the film. It was almost like watching a TV episode of something. Thumbs down for this movie from me! I cannot imagine what the hollywood stars were doing signing up to this script.

Imagine two great armies in a fog. Each looking for the other's HQ.
In the middle is Quiller who must get close enough to the enemy to signal the location of their HQ but not give way the location of his.

Modern day Germany (1960's) we see a resurgence of citizens that want the country to be strong. A hand full of citizens is acting on those sentiments. Seems the British Intelligence Pol (Alec Guinness) is a little queasy. They want to identify these people apparently lead by someone called October (Max von Sydow) and nip it in the bud. To this purpose they have issued agents that are now being mysteriously dispatched. Looks like it is time to bring in Quiller (George Segal); he has his own methods of detection and is not quite as paranoid as Pol when it comes to who is ... Read More:

A wonderful film which gives an excellent insight into the election of a pope. This film was to prove prophetic in ways with the election of Pope John Paul II, hailing from a communist country. Well worth having as part of anyone's collection.
