This is a very poor effort. It features explicit sex scenes, cut with scenes from music concerts (mostly at the Brixton Academy in London), and the use of Antarctica as a metaphor for - something... Perhaps the meaningless of the life of these two characters. It's really a poor movie because though the sex is explicit, it's not erotic. The musical choice is quite good, but it is tiresome to just break and watch another song for a few minutes. There is no character development and very little dialogue. It's just dire.

If you want a detailed, telling story of Factory Records, get Shadowplayers. This film is 'a truth based on lies'. It is almost pure myth feeding. The bits of facts thrown in, are literally thrown in, they're not built into the script, they're simply blurted out at a convinient moment. The omition of New Order is simply unforgivable. You cannot tell the story of Factory Records without putting some detail into New Order, without whom Factory would have sunk without a trace very quickly. Other important bands of the era don't even get a mention, but these are understandable, the Smiths and the Stone Roses for example were not on Factory, and this is the story of Factory.

The film is not a boiling pot of laughter, there are moments that ... Read More:

A truly perceptive insight into the suffering generated by such atrocious acts. Very well worth watching and a classic in many ways becuse of the accuracy of its depiction and the credibility of teh cahracters and screenpaly.

This is the story of a young man who seeks to better himself and achieve what is not expected from a man of his background. The journey seems promising, but after a series of events he is left to salvage dignity and hang on to his pride. The film successfully captures the spirit of inner-torment over unrequited love, and the carefree joy that comes when finally able to express that love.

"Jude" moves from happy optimism to being unbearably painful in a scene which is chilling to watch. Two lovers pay the ultimate price for being a modern couple in an age of conservatism. The actual moment I refer to is underplayed, but by this point we are absolutely convinced by the characters, we know how they think and feel. The intensity of the situation is magnified ... Although I'm not one to compare actors in different films I always seem to compare Steve Coogan to his brilliant Alan Partridge ego and I was awfully disappointed with his contribution to this film. I am a huge fan of his normally, including the cleverly crafted '24 hour party people'. This film really lacked any humour and I found the storyline muddled. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of classical literature and Tristram Shandy is on my to read list, but this movie just appeared to miss the vital transition from one century to the other.

Really this is a beautiful film , it gets under your skin and stays there - a subtle and moving piece about loneliness in modern times.Or any times really i suppose.
One of my favourite films of all time really , can't recommend it highly enough . And check out the absolutely perfect score by Michael Nyman , it fits to perfection . If the scene on the bus with Gina McKee doesn't get to you then nothing will ......

Be warned; don't watch this film with a strong moral view regarding immigration legal or otherwise this is simply the story of what many go through in order to reach the west.

We hear every day (in Europe at least) of illegal immigrants 'flooding the country' but we know almost nothing about them. This film goes some way to answer that question. Many are simply economic migrants rather than fleeing persecution in their homeland and many are arriving on our shores for no other reason that financial.

We see in the film how they bribe their way across Pakistan to Iran, how they change their clothes to 'blend in' with the locals, taken from there to South East Turkey (the smugglers heartland of that country) where they stay with Kurdish smugglers, passed on to sweat ... Read More:
