This film is incredibly well made. The TV news reports in the early stage of the film build an atmosphere of inevitability, to the point where you're expecting the two-minute warning to happen at any time. The participants of the "underground administration" leaving their families adds to the foreboding. The imagery of the attack is quite shocking; in itself it demonstrates the horrors of nuclear war's collateral damage in a brutal and authentic manner.

I don't think the point of the film ends there. Right at the beginning, the narrative outlines the complex relationships between people, products and services in the context of industrial society. "A web of dependencies, connected by fragile threads". Having read material about ... Read More:

Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) is an experienced Body Guard with a bit of history who is reluctant at first to take on the role of protecting Rachel Marron(Whitney Houston) a pop superstar who is getting death threat letters....Houston plays the difficult spoilt childish brat whilst Costner plays the cool I know what I am doing bodyguard...Whilst the film may have a lot of cliches, it certainly gels together well especially as the relationship develops between Costner and Houston.....No one would have denied the quality of the soundtrack at the time it was made and certainly Houston's version of "I will always love you" stands out more than most...This is a pleasant film with action, music, drama and above all a performance by Costner very alike to the great ... A catastrophe film has a simple formula. A perfectly beautiful situation. Los Angeles. With a hint of a problem. Earthquakes. Then some small elements that could lead to something else and a few geologists to prove it with theories that prove nothing but create anxiety. The geologists are women and that adds a touch of male-chauvinism when all the men (and they are only men, firemen, policemen, all kind of city workers and underground operators and security people, men, men and men again, and if you can find women they are geologists, doctors, nurses, news journalists, but not security personnel, though there might be one or two on the fringes but not in the middle of the action) of the security services don't believe her. Add to that a few simple but strongly ... Read More:

This TV series was made in the days of Thatchers Britain when the Labour party had a long way to go before it's transformation into New Labour. It dramatizes how many people (notably British business and the press) of the time were scared stiff of what would happen if Labour was elected. Well, we get a raw glimpse of those fears and how the right wing establishment might have responded in this story of Harry Perkins (portrayed brilliantly by Ray MacAnally), a newly elected very left-wing Labour prime minister. His agenda includes unilateral nuclear disarmament and removing U.S. bases from British soil. This leads to an unelected clique of spies, diplomats and businessmen conspiring to wreck Perkin's government and bring it down. It all ends in a very British Coup; no ... Read More:

I watched the TV show and thought is was good. so i then bought the book and watched the show again and realised it misses out at least half of the actual story and some of the chracters names are wrong. i advise everyone to read the book as it is 100 times better than the TV show.

DVD : L.A. Story [1991]
This film is a classic because it works on many levels. Stupid jokes sit comfortably alongside comedic pearls of wisdom. Slapstick set pieces give way to real moments of moving self unawareness portrayed by the likable main characters. Surreal sight gags give us small insights into life in L.A, fondly puncturing the very ridiculousness of it at the same time as thinly veiling Martins' absolute love for the city in which he grew up. Martin delivers classic lines with his usual straight-laced collar-loosening agitism. Richard E Grant is both pompous and lovable as the Englishman abroad and Sarah Jessica Parker is joyous in a very early career role. A GREAT film highly recommended. Get it.

DVD : Tuesdays With Morrie [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Morrie was mentally strong, though he suffered from the terminal disease, ALS(=amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), I'd say. He was eager to tell the meaning of life to his ex-student, Mitch Albom, who is also the author of Tuesday's With Morrie. I would only worry about my terminal disease,if I were in Morrie's shoes. I mean, all I could do would be to be apathetic or pessimistic about my future. " The truth is once you learn how to die, you learn how to live." - that'd be the last thing I could say.
Certainly, it WAS sad that Morrie passed away because he was respected by lots of his students and graduates. However, every Tuesday when Morrie told Mitch the meaning of life must be very precious memories for Mitch.

This box set is certainly the best value for money I have seen, and also one of the best compilation box sets out there. Both Flight of the Phoenix and The Day After Tomorrow are recent films making this an absolute bargains. I won't review the individual films, you can do that by looking at the individual DVDs.

The only let down to this fantastic box is that Volcano is certainly not on the same level as the formers, but it still makes for fantastic viewing, and at this price its difficult for one to complain.

All in all, this would make a great gift for someone's birthday, or is just a great bundle to buy. Definately recommend this!
