The story of Lorna Doone - of love between a man and woman on opposite sides of warring factions - has been filmed many times but this BBC adaptation has an eye-watering cast of TV and film favourites and stunning production values. The most recent adaption on this dvd is a decade old and the other two are twenty years old and personally i would wait for the fantastic new bbc jane eyre dvd which comes out in february.

What a great series Silent Witness is and it is still going strong. In fact I watched an episode of the new series last night. This 2 disk dvd contains the first series. The first story Buried Lies is a strong start and introduces us to Dr Sam Ryan played by Amanda Burton. The plot concerns the death of a young girl who is thought to have fallen from a swing and drowned, Sam has other ideas. Next up is Long Days, Short Night. This was the first episode I ever watched and features Colin Salmon (Tomorrow Never Dies)as a man suspected of a ritual killing. Ken Stott stars in the next episode Darkness Visible. It was an earlier work of Toby Stephens and I did not expect to be that good but it take me completely by suprise. Only a month ago I had seen Jane Eyre and it had converted me to be a dvd collector especially Toby`s work. There were some hit and some misses so I had not my hopes high, but the film was very good, all the performances were brilliant and both thedirection and production were of very high. I recommend to any one who likes a good drama.

What a brilliant film. I watched this last night and I have to say this film had so many twists that I was literally chained to my seat. The great thing about this movie is that just when you start to feel sympathy for one character another twist appears which makes you totally change your mind. I never so the end scene coming, and that is the mark of a great film ith some brilliant actors, I really recommend it!

I found this a bit of a "meh" film. Watchable enough, but nothing to really grab you. Fairly slow moving, and that's mostly because not really much happened. In many ways it felt a bit like a TV drama, or soap even, where different characters' lives crossed paths with each other, and I was kind of left with a felling that if you'd got to know the characters a bit more, and spent a bit more time with them, then it may have been a bit better. So I feel it could have worked better as a TV series, broken down into several episodes, and extended to give more background and depth to the characters and story. To Kill a King (aka Cromwell and Fairfax) came as quite a surprise - the film's troubled production is a local legend in the UK, the reviews were lukewarm and the film was further scuppered by a dreadful ad campaign and trailer. Then there was the fact that director Mike Barker's feature debut, the insultingly stupid The James Gang, was one of the very worst films I've ever had the misfortune to see. And that's ignoring Rupert Everett's efforts at promoting the movie in the States by describing it as boring rubbish and his performance being the only worthwhile thing in it. The omens weren't good, to put it mildly, but it actually turned out to be a surprisingly entertaining and ambitious retelling of the troubled relationship between Lord Fairfax and his deputy Oliver Cromwell ... Butterfly on a Wheel is a reasonable film in that it holds your interest (once it gets going). However it is based on a very far fetched plot, one that really would not work in reallity. The acting is ok, and it does make a change to see Pierce Brosnan seemingly in the role of the psychopath. Not one I would rush to see again, but if you have nothing better going on...

Everyone should watch this film, the acting, screenplay and a excellent soundtrack featuring Gomez and a few chilling Craig Armstrong tracks are just a few reasons to watch this film. It's really hard to get, so at this price it's a steal!
