I like Sandler's comic movies as well as the next person but was astounded by his portrayal of a greiving husband and father...he truly surprised me. Think I cried, laughed and was horrified all in one sitting. I've bought this film for myself but also for people I like and know will get the message it sends. If you don't see it you'll have missed out. Pearl Jam theme is fab too!

This movie didn't have an impressive trailer, and there wasn't even any hype about it. BUT it turned out to be one of the best movies I've seen this year! The only reason I went to see the film was because it was a Mike Binder project. I had had the privilege of meeting Mr.Binder at work and thought I'd check out another of his films, and I was really impressed! The movie centres around the intricacies of abandonment and ensuing anger. The script is written really well, with some very light and funny bits thrown in for good measure. Not exactly worshipped by the critics on release, Reign Over Me is actually a pretty good movie with excellent performances from both Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler. The nicely paced storyline involves a plot based on communication, or lack of it, between Sandler and his now detached persona following the loss of his family in one of the 9/11 plane crashes, and between Cheadle and his wife whose relationship is failing on a more basic level of communication. Spotting his old college roommate Charlie (Sandler) on the streets one day sparks a new mission in Alan Johnson's (Cheadles) life as the two gradually renew their friendship and slowly regain the ability to deal with their issues. Given the cast, this should have been watchable. It wasn't and I'm sure none of the big names put this on their cv. I actually put the DVD in the bin rather than give it to a charity shop as I don't want anyone else having to endure this torture. It was neither funny nor was there a story line - what was the writer / director thinking of? Apparently the film has had several titles to put people off the scent! That speaks volumes for this turkey. If I could have given no stars I would have. KEEP WELL CLEAR & SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR SOMETHING (ANYTHING) BETTER

This film is about a man who is an agent for writers - whether they are screenwriters or book writers I couldn't tell you because I lost interest in the dialogue very soon after the film started.The agent writes a diary about his life that gets read by a tutor in a college who says that by getting people to talk about their innermost secrets they can learn who they really are and what they really want from life. I stopped watching the film half way through so I couldn't tell you what the outcome was!John Cleese plays the tutor and he has the same accent and mannerisms as he does in just about every film he has ever acted in - what a talent he is!!
