I bought this movie as I am back into business with Animes and relied on the reviews that were written about this movie. First of all I have to say that it is a beautifully made movie. The charaters are nicely chosen, beautifully drawn and they act very well together accompanied by one the nicest sound tracks ever made for an anime movie. The CGI animations are fanatasic and still somewhere on the high ranks with Final Fantasy Advent Children which is just slightly better in my point of view as it is a little younger than Sky Blue. BUT: (That's unfortunately a big one which gave it a 4 star ranking at the end) There is a big lack of the violence in the movie. On the surface this film has it all, futuristic post apocalyptic world, political intrigue, civil unrest, an intriguing view of the future. Unfortunately it lets it all slide by failing to develop anything, aside from a cursory narrated introduction very little thought is given to the world around them, coupled with a laughable plot that feels like it was churned out in the last 5 minutes of this films 7 year production, entirely 2d characters who, even after watching their trials and tribulations in this film I still couldn't care less about and some very obvious theft of some of Studio Ghiblis themes/imagery (although failing in any way to capture any of the charm or brilliance of Ghibli). SKY BLUE is the first UMD movie I've bought, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It's a Korean movie, a beautiful (if initially peculiar) mixture of futuristic CGI imagery and traditional animation. The story focuses on social imbalance, with the safe and idyllic lifestyle of the HAVES being facilitated by the hazardous work of the HAVE NOTS. Into this mix throw a heroic revolutionary figure trying to level the playing field, his beautiful lost love, her ambiguous boyfriend, and an evil grafter trying to maintain the status quo, and you've got a good tale for the telling.
