For those who don't know much about Alpha Dog, it is a Los Angeles set crime drama based on a true story. The plot is pretty simple, Jake Mazursky (Ben Foster) owes drug money to Johnny Truelove (Emile Hirsch) and his crew, so they kidnap Jakes brother Zach (Anton Yelchin) until he pays up. But as it gets deeper Johnny realises the trouble he's in and will take drastic measures to cover up his mistakes...

With Alpha Dog, director Nick Cassavetes is doing a very interesting story, based on Jesse James Hollywood, here called Johnny Truelove (the youngest man ever to be on the FBI's most wanted list). The question is: would it carry over well into a Hollywood movie? The answer is, thanks to the performances and easy story telling, yes. ... Read More:

This film I think is basically failed because it rests over false charity and a main erroneous principle: life of a child with a deadly disease is however more worth that these of his father, a healthy and still young adult.
The plot is shown in gross traces: John Q, an Afroamerican man, worker of heavy machinery but traversing temporal difficulties to find a full time job, has a little son over 7 years old who suffers a dismay. John has a medical insurance policy and his son enters in the correspondent hospital. That's a good hospital, but the child need nothing less than a heart transplantation or he will die. The big problem is there are no hearts easily and the cheap insurance policy of John Q doesn't covers by far such expensive intervention. Hopeless, ... Read More:

This is a film with possibly some of the best actors in the business. Bruce Willis & Sharon Stone as the veterans of the business and Emile Hirsch, Anton Yelchin & Justin Timberlake as the promising up and comers of the movie business.
The main protagonist of this movie is Johnny Truelove, a wannabe gangster from a pretty well off background. He is owed money by a typical scumbag drug addict known as Jake Mazursky. As a form of revenge Truelove, along with friends Tiko Martinez & Frankie Ballenbacher they kidnap Jakes younger brother Zack. This event leads to a matter of different events that none of them had ever expected.

Firstly the Hostage of this movie, Zack (Yelchin) seems more than welcome to being kidnapped by these men and shows that he's fine ... Read More:

This is one of those films you would ridicule if described to you by a buddy, you would reluctantly agree to go to (only because it is your wife's turn to pick the movie) - and will end up staying with you forever.

A young couple's love is tested through societal chasms, dreams and ambitions, a world war, an avaricious mother withholding his letters, a handsome rich suitor, alzheimer's disease stealing away the past...I will refrain myself here not to enter into spoilers territory.

The story is narrated with flashbacks, as the notes of the girl (played by the young Rachel Adams and the older Gena Rowlands) are read to her by her friend (James Garner) who shares the same long-term nursing home.

Does it hit all the sappiness buttons? Masterfully yes ... Read More:

This film delivered nothing I expected, but astounded me from start to finish. It manages to be a love story, a drama and a comedy, without falling prey to any of the cliches that usually haunt each genre. As the wild, drink-addled husband and wife, Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn's chemistry is, given the couple's individual acting talents and their marriage, unsurprisingly superb, but in fact there isn't a dud performance in the film at all. John Travolta is wonderful as Wright Penn's bemused and enraged second husband, the part of the 9-year-old eldest daughter is played with impressive sophistication, and the script serves them all well; Sean Penn, known for his dark roles, shows his comic edge and is by turns sharp, pathetic and hysterically funny, offset beautifully by the manic, chainsmoking ... The storyline is a joke- then you have Justin 'timber-fake's' wannabe gangsta character. I am so glad I did not have to pay to see this movie. Pointless. There are more better and tasteful gangster and violent movies out there that hold a storyline as well as the audience's interest. I cannot believe they paid so much to make that movie. I would want a refund!
