This is an excellent series. The story lines are very good and frequently have a good twist at the end. The Scottish landescape is a beautiful backdrop to this series. The casting director has chosen well. Here is a series which combines pathos and comedy well. Not always an easy combination - tears in your eyes and laughter behind your smile.

I look forward to the release of series 2.

This has to be a must for anybody who likes either Taggart or Silent Witness. And, if your memory of this short-lived series is good, then fork out the money for this boxset beacause it is every bit as good now.

What makes each of the first eight films work so well is the combination of the characters complicated lives with some chilling (at times very scarey) plotlines. Yes, it does sometimes push the realms of plausibility, but credibility never steps in the way of enjoyment.

The last film does not have John Hannah in and, although it is in the same style, he leaves a rather large hole. Which presumably why they did not make any more. Shame.

Despite the excellence of the programme, the extras are almost non-existent. ... Read More:

DVD : Sherlock Holmes - The Man With The Twisted Lip / The Six Napoleons
This is one of my favourite episodes of Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett) series. Especially Colin Jeavons as Inspector Lestrade stand out. Jeremy Brett excells himself as he absolutely embraces the role inspiringly. The smashing of Napoleon busts one by one puzzles the Scotland Yard. Maybe an idee fixe man, whose ancestors had died during Napoleonic Wars? Come now Watson!

I really enjoyed this film. In particular Juliet Stevenson was fantastic to watch as usual but i also really enjoyed Jane Gurnett's performance as Christine. She was utterly convincing as the lover of the prime suspect and showed great emotion when turning up at Stevenson's house shouting and swearing and blaming her friend for her part in her lover's arrest.
If you're into The Bill, Taggart or Dalziel and Pascoe then this is a must see for you! A great crime drama!

"The Great Lochdubh Salt Robbery" sets the scene and establishes the characters for this wonderful TV series. I'm a great fan of the MC Beaton mysteries and admittedly the TV series bears little resemblance to the books, but this shouldn't deter anyone from the enjoyment of a series that gives new meaning to the word "quirky". The combination of superb writing, great acting and breath-taking scenery add up to something not to be missed. Thanks to BBC America, the series is gaining many new fans in the US and my hope is that the BBC will release the entire series on video soon - hopefully in the NTSC format as well as PAL.

While I am thrilled they are FINALLY putting Hamish out on DVD - WHY did they fail to include the FULL YEAR??? first six episodes were

1)The Great Lochdubh Salt Robbery
2) A Pillar of the Community
3) The Big Freeze
4) West Coast Story (MISSING FROM THIS COLLECTION)
5) Wee Jock's Lament
6) A Bit of an Epic

So while the series is wonderful and great to have they are cheating us out of #4 episode. Are they going to drop an episodes from 2 & 3? SO we end up missing 3 full episodes? Or do we pay for the "Lost Hamish Episodes". Just a tiny note that says "We regret Episode 4 "West Coast Story" could not be included in this collection." Och, that is mean!

This series is brilliant. ... Read More:
