I have read all of the Roman Mysteries' books and I loved them, so when i heard a tv series had come out i watched it... and i hated it. The books are to good to be broadcasted on the CBBC channel, at 4:30, as a 20 min children's show. I would have prefered it to be a movie.

This 2000 BBC mini-series of the world most famous detective Sherlock Holmes, explores what may very well have been the dark beginnings of the British sleuth and his sidekick Dr Watson. In this European import five dvd case, the English version has unremovable Dutch subtitles, which is a minor drawback, considering what remains a bargain price (I got my case for a real good price). Ian Richardson is Dr Joseph Bell, from the University of Edinburgh, while Doyle (Watson) is played successively by Robin Laing and Charles Edwards. The series was shot entirely in Edinburgh, and manages to create a mysterious and foreboding atmosphere, at least as thrilling as that of White Chapel. As an aficionado of Roman history, I was very pleased with this adaptation of Nero. Along with the TV series Rome, it is one of the few decent adaptations of Roman history to have been produced recently. Surprisingly, John Simm is brilliant at playing Caligula, and Hans Matheson is superb as Nero, humanizing the classic monster through a powerful blend of arrogance and paranoia. A true story that mirrors our own troubled times.

This was the last of the Murder Rooms series and in my opinion also the best. The acting is brilliant especially by Ian Richardson and Rik Mayall who gives a surprisingly well and straight performance as Daniel Blaney. The plot is as usual in the Murder Rooms series cunning and brilliant and you will keep guessing untill the very last minute. The ending of the white knight strategem also gives good closure to a fantastic series. Well worth buying,you won't regret it.

The past returns to haunt Detective Superintendent Tennison in this, the best of the three 'Prime Suspect 4' episodes. The tortured and beaten bodies of two new murder victims display identical characteristics to the bodies of George Marlow's victims; the intriguing problem is that Marlow is in prison, suggesting that either a copycat killer is at work, or Tennison, the detective on the original case, put the wrong man away. This engrossing drama captures something of the tense, urgent tone of the earlier 'Prime Suspect' stories, with Tennison endeavouring, despite both personal and professional pressure, to get to the truth.
