DVD : Have Gun - Will Travel: The Complete Third Season [1957] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

"...is the man called Paladin."

Many times one has fond memories of the older TV programs. When they are finally distributed and bought, it is a shocker to find that they are sophomoric or just long cigarette commercials. Well this time you will not be disappointed.

Each episode must find a conflict and solve it in an extraordinarily short time. Each with a moral and still maintain the entertainment value. One of the ways this is accomplished is the use of a wide spectrum of writers; many of the stories are adoptions of classics or became classics of other programs and/or movies.

Each episode is accompanied by a synopses of the story, which by the way is very well done and points out the purpose of the ... Read More:

This is the first time I have seen 6MDM since the 70s. I wanted to know why the slow motion effect was so convincing at portraying a man running at 60 mph. Having seen it in the cold light of adulthood, though, I realise it just looks like a man running slowly. Your childhood illusions have already been shattered by the write-up in DVD 1, which explains that Lee Majors has had to have both knees replaced. So now you can't escape the realisation that it's a man running slowly, wincing and holding his knees every time he has to jog downhill or jump off a fence.

It's a shame they couldn't have done a straight chronological run. I guess some of the episodes are too weak to sell themselves. DVD 1 has a robot (albeit one constructed by ... Read More:

DVD : The Rat Patrol: The Complete Second Season (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Though it only lasted two seasons, "The Rat Patrol" is still one of the best of the genre: a slam-bang thirty minutes of derring do and American-flag waving bravado that still holds up after four decades.

Like its initial season, the second one features the sandswept locales of northern Africa (actually Spain and southern California), crisp direction and storytelling, great music from composer Dominic Frontiere, and movie-like production values. Christopher George still leads his men as the brave and crafty "Sgt. Troy" while Gary Raymond (Moffitt), Lawrence Casey (the popular Hitch) and Justin Tarr (Tully) round out the squad. Hans Gudegast is equally effective as the "Nazi with a heart," Captain Dietrich.

Is it possible for a series to get better instead of fading to the mundane? Yes the second season has dropped the extras, with ... Read More:

I bought this boxset on a recent trip to the US. Being a fan from childhood days I thought it was about time I got something to remember the seris by. To be totally objective I would rate this set as one of the best I've purchased.

The menus are well presented if somewhat static. The sound reproduction is great as you'd expect with DVD transfers these days as is the picture. There is not much in the way of extras compared to say a Lord of the Rings boxset but there is more than enough to satisfy your curiosity about the series.

To ge to the point: If you ever liked Kight Rider in the slightest you will be glad you bought this set rather than the single discs or compilation DVDs currently on sale. I suggest you get ... Read More:
