What a great series Silent Witness is and it is still going strong. In fact I watched an episode of the new series last night. This 2 disk dvd contains the first series.
The first story Buried Lies is a strong start and introduces us to Dr Sam Ryan played by Amanda Burton. The plot concerns the death of a young girl who is thought to have fallen from a swing and drowned, Sam has other ideas.
Next up is Long Days, Short Night. This was the first episode I ever watched and features Colin Salmon (Tomorrow Never Dies)as a man suspected of a ritual killing.
Ken Stott stars in the next episode Darkness Visible. Sam investigates a custody death in a police cell. Could there be a cover up ?
The final story Sins Of The Fathers ... Read More:

Insp.North (Kate Buffery) was a totally credible charactrer as a police officer just like Jane Tennison. Unfortunately her replacement, Victoria Smurfit is quite beyond belief. She has no credibility whatsoever as a polce officer (in episodes 7 and above).

She spoils an outstanding series - Don't bother with the more recent short episodes..

In my opinion this is an excellent series. Not for those of a nervous disposition as there are some grusome scenes but these only add to the high drama of the series. All the cast play their parts with great realism with Ken Stott outstanding as the lead officer in the investigations. The plots are well conceived and leave very few clues as to each killers identity. You will need to concentrate on the action as it is fast moving with the main characters closely relating on a personal level within their professional duty.

I watched the first couple of tv series when it was first screened on TV in the early 1990's on Monday evening 9.00pm and thoroughly enjoyed it. For reasons beyond my control, I missed the final series' so, for many years I was hoping for the re-runs, now thankfully, all of the series is available! I bought them all and they are brilliant!! Great acting from Jemma Redgrave and David Cadler and Kevin McMonagle. I would highly recommend this title.

DVD : Bramwell - Series 4
Bramwell was one of the best drama series of the '90's. Over 3 series we watched young Victorian doctor Eleanor Bramwell struggle with life, love and the prejudices of the medical profession. Eleanor was a truly great character; strong, intelligent and compassionate, but flawed as well. Yet a character's flaws are supposed to allow the audience to empathise with her, not alienate them altogether, and by the end of the second of these 2 films I no longer really cared what happened to her, or to any of the characters. In these final 2 episodes, Eleanor falls in a spectacular manner and seems hardly recognisable as the heroine we had come to know over the previous 3 series. One of the issues dealt with is child prostitution and her shock and horror ... Read More:

There are a lot of brilliant actresses that have played Aunt Jane in movies and TV programs. Each brought their own personalities yet they still lined up with the character from the book. There have been many remakes of the stories. These two generally followed the books storyline with a few adoptions for the media. We al have favorites.

It is the duty of the industry to try and top the last version. Poetic license can also come into play.

Unfortunately some one rushed this series. Aunt Jane she is supposed to be a person of depth and the catalyst to have others come up with solutions has been replaced with a flighty char lady with no depth and a squeaky voice. The story lines have been stripped to the point that they ... Read More:
