I thought this film was brilliant. I loved it at the cinema and couldn't wait to buy it on DVD. Of course it helps that the gorgeous Dr McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy is in it! The chemistry between the two actors makes you believe in them. Go and buy this film if you love a chick flick!

DVD : Bernard and the Genie [1991]
Fast moving and very funny. Lenny Henry, Rowan Atkinson and Alan Cumming are all excellent in this. Thank goodness I recorded it off the telly years ago and the copy is still OK!!! It should definitely be on DVD for all to see. Both my children loved it.
A film-quality "made for TV". Lenny Henry is wonderfully over-the-top as a genie who has e.g never before eaten a burger, & doesn't understand the modern gadgets etc. that we take for granted, and who eagerly explores modern living with gusto and zest, but who starts to miss his old life and his girlfriend of circa 2,000 years ago, whose papyrus image he touchingly takes out to look at!! Rowan Atkinson is wonderfully mean, scrooge-like and bullying to his employees. Alan Cumming is ... Read More:

It was great to see the Blackadder cast together again, 10 years after the show finished on such a high. It's just a shame that the latest episode 'BAck and Forth' is such a let down.
The whole plot is too far fetched even for Blackadder and sees our favourites Blackadder and Baldrick time travelling.
There are some good bits which are thinly spread across the half hour episode and even they aren't that funny.
I thought the whole cast and crew tried too hard to make it funny. It was over produced. And where was lord Percy?
This episode is only worth watching because it is a blackadder, without that title, no-one would care.
The best reason to buy the DVD is the comic releif special, which reminds us how good the show ... Read More:

If you know the Storyteller series it's probably the famous nine programmes made with John Hurt as the tale-teller. There is no way to adequately describe the brilliance of the films and special effects .... save to say these are definitely NOT bedevilled with CGI but are based upon the superb Henson creature workshop and advanced puppetry and animatronics.

The second DVD of Greek myths featuring Michael Gambon (and the shaggy dog) is no less excellent - but there are only 4 stories and absolutely no extras. Surely there was room for some behind-the-scenes films about the Creature Workshop? This is a totally cheapskate and unforgivable oversight - hence the loss of a star.

But all 13 films are beyond criticism and if you are reading ... Read More:

The original City Slickers was a comedy, but it also had a very strong story line to support the very average jokes. The sequel does away with the good story line- it's basically a repeat of the first, except they're looking for gold instead of driving a heard. In other words, all we're left with is a very, very average comedy. This movie IS watchable, and not the worst comedy I have ever seen, but there is far better out there!

DVD : Jim Henson's The Storyteller: Greek Myths (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I was about 4 years old when i first watched the Greek myths series, and i cannot believe how good these episodes still are!! Theseus and the minotaur is still incredible, and the scene where Ariadne curses theseus for abandoning her is brilliant - if for no other reason than the language is great! "You Gods who watch all things! Hear my cries! Mark my tears! Let the sky fall on him! The sea swallow him! The earth drown him! He abandoned me!!" - Well they do say that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! But nonetheless, THE most literate curse youll ever hear.
Now, i was very young when i saw this, but actually it was never an issue coz the language is literate, yet simple enough that children can understand it. They should not be deprived of hearing ... Read More:
